Jaguar XK8

i have a jag x type and my sidelight bulb has blown....in looking space is limited...but has the light array a cover over it and does this unscrew..or just pull off to gain access to the bulb

open the pass door and look on the side of the dashboard for the fusebox. It is a yellow 20 amp fuse.

The codes means lean fuel. This is probably caused by an air leak in one air supply hoses or in the manifold gasket. Estimated cost of repair is 2 to 6 hundred dollars.

Note: I don't show the front adjustment in the video, but if you read further down in the thread someone else explains it. And BE CAREFUL! Disconnect the battery. I almost chopped off a hand because the window came down unexpectedly with my hand inside of the door.

If your Jaguar is fuel injected the fuel pump is located on top and inside the fuel tank. If it has a carburetor it may be an in-line electric pump or the pump might be mounted on the side of the engine block. Follow the fuel lines from the fuel tank and you will find the pump.

After I tried the above without success, I called the dealer. I have a 2002 XK8. There is a hole for the key between the X and the K just above the rear bumper. The battery is to the right of the spare.

You have to use the key and the keyhole is located on the back between the X and K.

I don't know if the remote will do it, but if you stick your key into the door it will put it up and down depending upon which way you twist the key.

That's correct. You cannot open or close the top with the fob, but you can do it with the key in the door. By the way, most people use their door keys so infrequently that the mechanism is usually very stiff at first. You might have to jiggle is back and forth several times to exercise it before it finally starts to work. Don't turn the key too hard, though. The connection between the latch and the lock pushrods is plastic and it can be broken.

The cabin filter in the 2004 x type jaguar is in the same place as the 2003 s type jaguar. it is under the hood on the passenger side under the plastic cowling. you need to remove the 5 plastic clips and both wipers then pry it off starting from the passenger side

You have to take the car to the dealer, along with your registration (to prove you own the car). They can look up the code. Most dealers don't charge for that. By the way, in the US Jaguar disabled the radio code so you don't need to enter it if your battery dies. So I'm assuming you're in Europe.

I recently had the same problem, the local Jaguar dealer, repaired Valve cover gaskets replaced. Oil leaked into the cylinders had to replace coils, plug, gasket, and few others parts. Over $2500 repair

You've not said if coupe or drop-top, coupe is easier. Lever off speaker cover in centre of window, once one corner is off the rest come away easily, then there are I believe 9 small nuts that need unscrewing, once undone you can open the boot/trunk and carefully pull the sub away. Very difficult to find a replacement sub of the same shallow profile though so easiest to get a used OEM where possible.

If it's like a 1998, use your key. The keyhole is hidden in the "8" of the XK8 logo on the right rear side of the trunk.

Using the key will not work since the release is electronic. Just open the hood and on the passenger side there is a positive terminal to hook up a jump. Just use this long enough to open the trunk so you can change/charge the battery.

Actually, the key will work even with a dead battery. There is a mechanical connection between the lock and the latch. However, it's not unheard of for that mechanical connection to break. If it does, you need to use the electrical connection under the hood method.

It sounds like you only have a "valet key" My valet key is green. The main key is black. The valet key will not open the trunk or the glovebox.

If you do not have a main key you should be able to get one from a dealer using the VIN #

There are two ways. The first one is the easiest, so try this: Just below the right taillight you'll see a little chrome "XK8" emblem. In between the X and the K you'll see a little hole. Stick the key in there and turn it. The trunk should open. If that doesn't work, get some jumper cables, open the hood, and look for the fuse box on the left side of the engine bay. Take the cover off of the fuse box, and at one corner of the fuse box you'll see a big bolt with a fat wire connected to it. That's the positive wire for the fuse box. Clamp the red clamp on the jumper cables to that bolt, and clamp the black clamp to any exposed bolt in the engine bay. Hook the jumper cables to the other car, but DON'T TRY TO START THE ENGINE LIKE THAT. The Jag will have electrical power, so you should be able to pop the trunk with the fob or with the button on the dash. Once you've popped the trunk, move the jumper cables back to the battery to start the car.

More info is needed. The 1336 should be preceded by a letter, like P or C. P is an engine code, C is a chassis code. Each one is completely different. Also, a P1336 might be different on a 2005 than it is on a 1998. The model year and complete code is needed to answer the question.

If it's just the light that comes on, a Jaguar dealership should be able to reset the onboard computer and remove the error state which triggered the light.

A gear box fault can sometime occur due to a glitch in the computer software for the gearbox. If so, resetting as outlined above should sort you out.

If on the otherhand there is a 'physical' problem with the gearbox the error state may return. Your best bet is to have the box looked at.

It's well known that catastrophic gearbox failure occurs around 96k miles requiring a new (or reconditioned) box.

The transmission for this model (and all the way through 2006) has a known defect. A recall was done in 1999, but only on a portion of the XK8s out there. After the recall, Jaguar did NOT redesign or modify the transmission and continued to put the same defective transmission in all successive models through year 2006.

Because the transmissions is sealed for its lifetime (100k miles), it is not supposed to require any maintenance; however, because of the defect, these transmissions tend to fail around the 70,000 to 80,000 mile mark. The "Transmission Fault" message is your clue. Take it to your repair shop. They will likely have to replace the transmission at about $10,000 to $12,000 cost to you if you are no longer under warranty.
