I have a 1997 Jeep TJ Wrangler with the 2.5 engine. It is a 4x4 5 speed with 31" off road tires. It runs smooth and has no high way noise from these tires. It has 4.11 gears and gets onlu about 14-15 mpg combination city/highway. I am going to get another set of wheels with 205/70/R15 road tires to increase my mieage to about 21 mpg. Then when I want to take it off road I am going to put the 31s back on temporarily only. I have read where adding 3 ounces of acetone to ever 10 gallons of fuel adds between 3 to 3 more miles to gallon and is harmless to the engine.

its been a while since i did mine but there is a hex shaped screw attached to the headlight assembly, open the hood and look down at the headlight assembly, i believe its 3/16" you will need 1/4" drive socket, a 6 " extension and a ratchet. crank the screw clockwise or counter clockwise to adjust level.

Yes the top will fit however some of the door latches differ but an easy and cheap fix.

There are two Torx adjusting screws, accessed through holes in the top of the black plastic housing...T23 I think. The center one adjusts up and down, the outside one adjusts left-right.

You are trying to go from one series to another.The Tj's ran to 2005. The doors and windshield frame may be slightly different. Try this .Go to an online Jeep parts catalog and see those years are listed together for a new hardtop. I do the same for my two Jeeps(a 82 CJ-7 and a 90 YJ) some parts do and some don't.Good Luck!

no it doesn't really matter but it should be in neutral. and when you take it out of 4wd you should put it in reverse for about 10 ft to make sure that it is out of 4wd.

Not without modification, the body changes from the YJ to the TJ models.

1999 Wrangler uses the Dana 35 rear axle

The 44 was an option, and used primarily on the Sahara and Rubicon.

The easy way to tell the difference is in that the axle tube is larger on the 44, and the cover has a rather large semi circular hump to accommodate the larger ring gear.

The Dana 35 will be completely round and uses a allen wrench to remove the plug whereas the Dana 44 looks more like a sideways apple and the plug is square.
