To state the obvious, make sure the brightness is turned up. This is usually a function key on the keyboard (the icon is probably shaped like a sun). If this doesn't accomplish anything, then the backlight on the LCD may be damaged, or else there could be a problem with the inverter. (I had a very similar problem myself: the screen would appear incredibly dark when I turned it on/woke it up, and then openning and shutting it a bit or jiggling sometimes helped, at least for a while - this is NOT a solution, it's merely a quick fix, and it only works so many times.) The inverter is more likely to be the cause: the backlight is a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) and such last longer than the inverter. You can purchase an inverter or backlight relatively cheaply on the internet - I would recommend checking the related links I've provided, they have more information on the possible problems and fixes, as well as instructions on how to replace the inverter or backlight.

hp pavilion dv7-1451nr is really good its $699 at staples but with like a $200 rebate so you get it for $499 which is really good. it also has a 18 inch screen so its perfect that's what i have and i hsve no problems with it at all

or the hp comaq is geat i have it and it hasn't let me down yet and ive been gaming on it a ton and its lightweight and big

If you have a VGA to RCA cable it probably isn't going to work - what you really need is a VGA to RCA converter - these have an active chip built in that will make this conversion. The only way a conversion would work is if you have a special port on your computer that does output TV out (these are almost unheard of).

You have to buy bids (they cost from $0.50 to $1.00 or so). Each time somebody bids, some amount of time is added to the expiration of the auction. So the winning bidder may have only won the item for $30, but there may have been 500 people who bid on the item - so at even $0.50 per bid, that would be an additional $250 to the auction company.
