Which system -a federal or unitary is favourable for India and why?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Since the late 1960s, India's federalsystem has experienced severe strain incenter-state relations. Such strain was almost nonexistent during the first generation of Indian federalism (1950-1966). During the second generation, which followed the death of Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966, the rise of a powerful leader of the ruling Congress party, Indira Gandhi, and the emergence of dissent inside the party led to a greater emphasis on centralization and regimentation within the party and, thereby, the federalsystem as well. At the same time, economic development had helped to produce new political elites from rural areas who benefited from the "green revolution" of the 1960s. These new elites challenged the professional and industrial elites who had long controlled the Congress party, the national government, and many state governments. Feeling frustrated in their efforts to influence national economic policy in a significant way, these new elites have formulated demands that call forsubstantial decentralization, greater state autonomy, andmore tolerance for opposition parties whose electoral support is mainly state-based.

Does the government track who owns the anarchist's cookbook?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's impossible to know for sure, but they almost definitely don't. The anarchist's cookbook is available for free online, and contains very little up to date or accurate information. The government will have much better leads to go on in the investigation of potential terrorism than simply who has access to the anarchist's cookbook.

What does 'property is theft' mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"Property is theft," comes from the original French, "la proprit, c'est le vol!" This quote is from French anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon. The basic idea is that those who own the most property were assumed to oppress those with the least to get it. This is the base of the Mutualist ideology, which is a type of socialist ideology that makes use of a market economy.

It is based on the fact that if someone owns a peace of land, nobody else is able to access that peace of land without permission of that person. A common misunderstanding is that this refers to things such as wealth or commodities. It has to do with property that cannot be replenished such as a piece of land, a forest, a river, a mine, a building. It claims that nobody should be allowed to be the sole owner of something that multiple people are using. The reason why it is seen as theft is that because If a person claims to own something, that person then decides who gets granted or denied access. And the person might even use force or ask others(such as a police force) to use force to maintain this property. Anyone who wants to access it is now dependent on the decisions of the person who claims it is their property. And they who own the property can now make demands before granting access. Depending on how rare the property is in a certain radius, the owner of the property can use it to coerce those who do not own it.

It is also important to note that the concept of theft normally cannot exist without the concept of property. If nobody owns something, nobody can steal it. The statement "Property is theft!" however claims that as soon as you claim it and deny others, you steal it from those who are now being denied access.

But Proudhon also made a counter statement, being: "Property is liberty". Which means that the ability to own something also grants certain advantages, such as privacy. Meaning that he did not reject all types of property.

Most modern day Mutualists and other Anarchists make the distinction between private property, which is the same as the Marxist definition of means of production(such as an office, a office desk, factory equipment, etc.), and personal possessions(such as a toothbrush, your house, a television, etc.). The distinction is based on what it is used for. (Depending on if it's for personal use, or if it's for producing something you intend on selling.)

What is the difference between liberalism and libertarianism?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

My understanding of the difference:

Libertarianism: Freedom of thought and action and the virtue of self interest, even if this affects other people adversely?

Liberalism (Classical not Modern): As many people as possible have as much personal freedom/autonomy as is feasible, without affecting other people adversely?

(Modern liberalism in America is sometimes thought of as a 'liberal' use of government intervention, as against a more 'conservative' use of government intervention?)

How many libertarians in congress?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

At the below link there is also a list of all elected officials from the party. I only noticed one who was in a position at state level or above; Richard Sanders, State Supreme Court, Washington. It is possible that I overlooked someone since I read each individual listing of the 153 mentioned below. Based on that I have concluded that there are no current Libertarian Party members in Congress, although there are probably a few who represent something close to a libertarian philosophy but are endorsed by another party.

"Elected Officials

Nationwide, there are 153 Libertarians holding elected office: 38 of them partisan offices, and 115 of them non-partisan offices. If you know of an elected Libertarian who is not on this list, please notify us at info@lp.org.

General criteria: For partisan offices, the elected official must have appeared on the ballot with the party designation "Libertarian" -or- the elected official must currently be registered to vote as a Libertarian. For non-partisan offices, the elected official must be a current or former dues-paying member of the Libertarian Party."

What does the gas that you inhale come from?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The term "gas" applies to several different substances. Gases are a phase of matter, created when the temperature of a substance is above its boiling point.

GASOLINE - This is a combination of many volatile liquids and gases extracted from petroleum. Its exact composition varies, but it is created by heating and fractional distillation.

NATURAL GAS - Methane gas obtained from underground, or from petroleum. Methane is odorless but the chemical mercaptan (CH3SH) is added to enable detection by smell.

INTESTINAL GAS - Gas that is swallowed into the digestive tract, or produced (as by fermentation) in the bowel. The smell of these gases is usually created by various sulfur compounds.

What is a ruler who has absolute power over a country's government?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A dictator

E.g. Hitler was a dictator but was addressed as the fuhrer

Other titles used for designating absolute power can be king, queen, tyrant, Caesar, chairman, president, lord, and chief. It cannot be emphasized enough that some titles of those with absolute power can be disguised, such as the title of president....

Conversely, all people with absolute power, can in fact have this power "on paper" but in practice, absolute power is not always enforceable, as example der Fuhrer ordered certain German generals not to surrender and they did in fact do so. This happened in WW2 by German generals in Russia.

Also, the Emperor of Japan ordered all Japanese soldiers to fight to the death in Iwo Jima, and this order was disobeyed.
