Americans thought imperialism was a chance, given by God, to civilize natives.

The term manifest destiny has been various moments throughout the history of nations. Manifest Destiny portraits the divine plan of a countries, nations, or even individual's predetermined future in greatness.

imperialism is when a militarily stronger country overtakes a militarily weaker country and colonizes it.

manifest destiny is the belief in the God-given right to move as far as possible to settle new land.

James k. Polk was a president after Andrew Jackson, they both where a very big part of the manifest destiny, James k. Polk was the one who believed in them and encouraged them during the things that he/she had a hard time with the things that they did. James K. Polk was the person who incouraged them and he also was oppart of the manifest destiny and so was andrew jackson after he wasent president james k. polk took his place.

Manifest Destiny was the belief held by Americans that the U.S. should own all of the land on North America from the Atlantic to the Pacific. This was achieved when the U.S. won the Mexican-American War and acquired what is now the Southwestern U.S. However, acquisition of this land brought back up the slavery question, i.e. should this new territory be slave or free--an argument that would eventually lead to the U.S. Civil War. The manifest destiny also led back to popular soveignty!!!

The justification of Imperialist Expansion under the term 'Manifest Destiny' was by no means unique to the American Settlers. The Colonialisation process resulted in large scale extermination and suppression of indigenous peoples as well as exploitation and theft of land and resources. Many European countries were guilty of the same thing by another name. Forced movement of peoples, slavery, and what by today's standards can not be tolerated, is to be condemned, yet continues today in other guises.

The past can not be undone. Blaming people for being 'Wrong' is futile. What can be done is to learn the lessons of history, and never to repeat them. America and other former Colonisers need to face their past squarely and deal with it in an honest and just way regardless of vested interests.

Open repentance for harm done, and meaningful reparations for those who continue to suffer the consequences is the only way. Until this unfinished business is dealt with, anger, resentment, non-integration and retribution will continue to smoulder at some level or other, whether it be in open protest or sullen insolence. For the USA this especially means the indigenous Indian Tribes, and post slavery Blacks.

A good start would to be to make History a mandatory subject in Schools, and to teach it as it really should be taught:
