What is the average time to finish a half marathon for a man over 60?
How many years over 50? What is your weight, gender, present fitness level and training status.
I could still run a 1.19 at 50, however at 53 I am now only managing 1.24 at present. (I was 1.15 at 47). After 50 it is more difficult to predict times, the body cannot take the same effort required in training. It is really important to include rest days in one's schedule, it is better to set 1 mile target times and stick to them i.e. 8 mins very mile etc. The most elementary error to make is to not do the training and too start off too quickly.
Best of luck in your challenge, a time of under 2 hours would be considered to be acceptable and suitably challenging and would require 9 minutes per mile.
How long should a person rest after a marathon?
After personally finishing 35 marathons I can still say this is not a simple answer. It certainly depends on how hard you pushed it. I have completed marathons totally exhausted and followed the "rest one day for every mile rule." (26 days) I have friends that "participate" in marathons but run very slowely and run one marathon each month. Frank Shorter, silver medalist in the Olympic marathon said, "Run your next marathon when your blue toenails have grown out!" It takes about 6 months to regrow a toenail!
Why is a marathon that exact distance?
At the 1908 Olympic Games in London, the marathon distance was changed to 26.2 miles to cover the ground from Windsor Castle to White City stadium, with the 2.2 miles added on so the race could finish in front of royal family's viewing box. This added two miles to the course, and is the origin of the Marathon tradition of shouting "God save the Queen!" (or other words relating to the Queen) as mile post 24 is passed. After 16 years of extremely heated discussion, this 26.2 mile distance was established at the 1924 Olympics in Paris as the official marathon distance.

After the battle, the Athenians realised that the Persian cavalry had been embarked and was being rowed around the Sunion peninsula to then gallop up and take Athens with traitors opening the gates of the city for them. The Athenian army ran the 26 miles over the hills with their armour and weapons to form up in front of the city just as the Persian cavalry was disembarking. The Persians, having lost their infantry, and frustrated in their next attempt, went home.

This is a common and unique problem with the Z24 engine. It is cause by the timing tensioner seeping oil while shutdown. The chain actually rattles on it's housing until oil pressure is built up again and brings the timing chain to the appropriate tension again. I have a 1996 Nissan Pickup with about 150,000 miles on it and it has done it since it had about 50,000 miles (I bought it new with 12 miles on it).
I would assume that the constant rattling at startup would lead to a reduce lifespan of the timing chain, but it is actually not common for one to snap. One of those strange anomalies that we live with, because the trucks are so great (and otherwise bulletproof!) The god awful noise it makes when the steering wheel is turned to the limits to the right and allowed to roll forward or back is another, normal bad sounding thing!
