Can the birth control pill cause a light period?
Hormonal birth contro works by suppressing your menstrual cycle so you no longer ovulate, thus you no longer menstruate - the bleeding women get while on the pill is a withdrawal bleed rather than menstruation. Withdrawal bleeds can be lighter than menstrual bleeds because one way in which the pill works to prevent pregnancy, on top of stopping ovulation, is to prevent secondary uterus lining build-up so if an egg was fertilised it couldn't implant - thinner uterus lining means less blood loss during a bleed.

Can opiates disrupt menstrual cycle?
I have been on methadone for medical reasons for three years, and my body failed to have menstruation cycles once my dose became higher than 50 mg/day. Upon research and visits with my doctor, it was explained to me that some people are more sensitive to narcotics than others, and it can cause their body's estrogen levels to drop. This, in turn, causes the body not to menstruate. I am currently on birth control pills so the hormones I am lacking are replaced, and I now have a menstrual cycle every month. My main goal is to wean myself off of methadone (it's a slow process, but I'm getting there), and once again be able to menstruate once a month without the need of additional hormone based medicines.

Tampons should never be flushed, they should always be wrapped-up and binned.
Once flushed tampons don't break down but instead expand in the water, so they can get caught in pipes and collect over time to create blockages which can damage pipes as well as the surrounding area if the pipes burst. Blockages are often caught before there is major damage, a sewage worker will have to go down into the pipes to manually clear the blockages, what is removed (tampons along with other materials that people irresponsibly flush) is then disposed of in an incinerator.
Many tampons will find their way through sewage treatment plants, as these systems are not designed to deal with items like tampons, thus tampons can find their way into waterways like rivers or into the sea with other sewage and they end-up washing-up on beaches or eaten by sea life.
