i have the same problem and found on the internet which i haven't tried is a 76mm cap wrench,but i would bring the car and try before buying it first!
Most oil filter strap wrenches self adjust, and only come in a couple basic sizes. One for standard, one for smaller. Just eyeball it and get whichever of those 2 you need. They are only hand tight anyway if installed right and I have even removed them with the belt from my pants.

How do you replace the high beam bulb on a 1999 Mercedes slk?
Hi, Take off the plastic cover to the back of the light and its the top bulb in the light unit, take off the the leads to the bulb, unclip the metal holder and take the bulb out. replace bulb with new one. I have just changed mine to Ice Blue bulbs. Is looks great and so much brighter than the other ones that where in the car.
Some details to help the above answer:
The low beam and the high beam have the same mechanism. When you remove the plastic cover (the tab is on the top press down and swing out), the low beam bulb is the one on the top and the high beam the one below it.
The clip has a U shape tab at one end and two legs at the other end. The center of the clip presses against the bulb and holds it. You need to push the U shape tab to the left (facing the car) to unhook it from the bracket.
It becomes much easier if
1. You use a flashlight or portable light to illuminate the back of the fitting while carrying out the procedure so that the clip is clearly visible.
2. Use (needle-nose) pliers to move the wire clip left (when facing the car) than your fingers.
3. Do not unclip the bottom portion of the clip. Just release the top as in the answer above and gently let it swing out and down while still attached at the bottom. The bulb can be removed this way. After you place the new bulb, you can just swing back the clip and hook it back to the top bracket.

Hello, I just tried this out and it works for sure (November 2, 2006), it took me two tries so be patient. I have a 2000 SLK 230 so this should work for most model years. There are two nobs on the instrument panel. The nob on the left resets your odometer, this is the nob we are going to use, lets call it button 1. In addition, there are two positions when you insert the key nto the ignition. The second position lights up all of the instrument lights before turning on the car, this is the position we are going to use, lets call it position 2. 1. Turn key in steering lock to position (2) 2. Within 4 seconds press button (1) twice 3. The present status for distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds turn key in steering lock to position 0 (starting position without taking the key out) 4. Press and hold button (1), while turning key in steering lock to position 2 again. The present status for distance is displayed once more. Continue to hold button (1) 5. Release button (1) when you hear a beep. You have now reset it successfully. just tried on slk 2oo 2002 model worked first time thanks to the man that posted answer

Raise the car and place jackstands underneath so that you can get underneath the car safely. Place a drain pan underneath the transmission. You will find a socket head drain plug at the bottom of the transmission and another on the side of the transmission.
Remove the one on the side first so that you know that you will be able to get fresh oil in the transmission after you have drained it. Remove the drain plug at the bottom and allow the old oil to drain into the drain pan. After fully drained, replace and tighte the drain plug.
Fill through the fill opening on the side of the transmission. Once full replace and tighten the fill plug. Remove the drain pan and properly dispose of the old fluid. Lower the car.

Why when I fill up the windscreen wash on my 2002 slk200 does it run out from underneath the car?
The washer tank for the windshield and front headlight washer share the same water tank, but two separate pumps, for obvious reasons. On my SLK, the washer pump houseing for the head lights was cracked and would allow water to flow out. I simply pulled the pump and plugged the hole, didn't think I really needed to have water spraying on my headlights. You will need to remove the front passanger tire and fender well plastic to get to the pump(s).

All the oil filters to SLK were located in the engine compartment just to the right of the engine. You will need a special canister wrench to remove the cap and the filter element just pulls out (messy). The old oil is usually sucked out the top with a pump but some mechanics will drain from the bottom.

The upper brake bulb appears to be burnt out, but it is really the plastic in the light assembly heating up and warping so that the electrical contact of the bulb is lost. The entire light assembly must be replaced. Mercedes re-imbursed the previous bills for three replaced tail light assemblies on my 1999 230 SLK.
