if its the same as mine you don't.its a led light no bulb.i had 2 buy a new power converter for mine,that's what goes out250$grrrr.if your crafty u can change it to a 12 volt light.in order 2 get at it u have 2 take a bunch of stuff off.if u decide on a 12 volt bulb(that's what i did)theres a wire that hooks up 2 the power converter and it carrys the 12 volts,i just spliced some wires on it and put a 12 bulb on it,i drilled a hole in the back side of the brake light assenbly and stuck the bulb up in there and it works fine.i live in Utah and it wont pass inspection unless the 3rd brake light works grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr good luck

Either a fuse or a broken wire. On my 1998 Mountaineer the wire broke inside the boot that runs from the body to the door. The fix was to cut plastic tie that holds the boot up, pull the boot down and find the broken wire. It is the green wire with a black stripe on it. I spliced a piece of wire in and everything worked again. This wire is the power wire that goes to the control module where you roll the windows up or down.

This may work on some models..I have a late model 02 and the plastic on the housing that covers the bulb is glued on. I started to pry on the cover and it started to break. I had to take the mirror off the truck by removing the interior door pannel....4 bolts..2 on bottom of the pannel and 1 behind the door handle cover and 1 behind the power window switch/lock....then lift panel strait up and make sure all the plugs are disconnected...including the power mirror switch plug. Remove the 3 nuts that hold on the mirror and disconnect the wire harness. After you remove the mirror, behind the foam padding where the mirror contacts the body of the truck you will see the pigtail that holds the bulb...turn it counter clockwise and bull it out and pull out the bulb (this is tight but it will come out..i used a pair of slip-joint pliers). Replace the bulb and re-install.
