Can Depakote cause weight gain?

In the two years since I began taking Tegretol, I have gained nearly two stone; but I am also on HRT, which I believe can also make one prone to weight-gain. So I think with me it is a combination.

Can you take depakote and Ativan together?

Although this combination of medications are used routinely in various patients, it should first be noted that Ativan ( as well as all other benzodiazepines) is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE and there are alternatives for treating anxiety that can be used instead of Ativan (Various SSRI's also treat anxiety without the possibility of addiction. I.e. Prozac, Zoloft, etc...). The coocurrence of addiction in those with BiPolar Mood Disoder and the various Anxiety Disorders IS high and therefor, consideration for "switching" addictions from alcohol or other substances to the benzodiazepine of choice should be discussed in detail with your physician! Specifically, in regard to the question as posted, Depakote CAN inhibit the metabolism of Ativan which - in turn - could lead to higher levels of Ativan (other than that intended) in the bloodstream. Being that blood levels of Depakote should be monitored with regularity by the prescriber whenever prescribed, blood levels of Ativan will likely be a focus as well. If you are taking a benzodiazepine (Ativan, Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, etc..) for ANY reason, sinceity and honesty with your physician - in regard to your substance use/abuse - is paramount! I've been having migraine headaches only on the left side of my head and my left eye has been hurting a lot because of it as well what could it be?

ANSWER

Migraine headaches are often only on one side of the head and for many people the pain is centered around the eye. Cluster headaches are also only on one side and are always centered at the eye.

If you have never had migraines before, and this is your first time experiencing this type of headache, you need to seek medical care. If it is the worst headache of your life, you need emergency care.

For best results, seek out the help of a Migraine and Headache Specialist. These doctors are specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders beyond the scope of neurologists and primary care doctors.

Other Answer

Might be a stroke. Go to hospital.

Can inflamed sinus cause terrible migraines?

Although they are not symptoms used to characterize migraines, many people with sinus-related symptoms are having migraines.

Migraines are generally charactierized by intense throbbing pain that is usually on one side of the head, although for some people both side are affected. They also usually last from 4-72 hours. The nerves in the head and face that are affected can be ones that are connected with the sinus regions (the face underneath the eye, the forehead).

Some people do get other sinus-related symptoms during their migraines, such as congestion and puffy, watery eyes.

It is possible that the migraine is causing those symptoms, or that you are reacting to something in the environment that is then triggering a migraine (allergens, weather changes, food).

What foods get rid of migraines?

The question shouldn't be about what can you eat to alleviate the effects, but what you shouldn't eat to trigger one in the first place.

Most migraines that aren't triggered by physiological symptoms like stress are caused by food allergen triggers, or allergies to other substances. Things like MSG, Dark Red Wines (nitrites), some cheeses, and many others trigger migraines. The key is to figure out what your triggers are and avoid them like the plague.

It is not an easy task tracing all of the triggers that can cause your migraine - you literally have to keep a record of everything you eat, and note what you ate prior to a migraine flareup. If you're like me and have had them since childhood, then you eventually learn over time what to avoid.

There is no one treatment, food, plan or drug that can help; all migraine patients are different, and what helps one or more may not help others. Standard migraine meds have never worked for me - the only thing I've used for the past 25 years for mine is Fiorinal w/ Codeine (Fiorinal 3). The Butalbital relaxes the body, and it also has aspirin and caffeine in it. The aspirin thins the blood while the caffeine speeds the process. It is the only thing that's ever worked for me - even the normal opiates I've used daily for the past 11 years (Percocet 10/325 & Duragesic (Fentanyl) 100mcg patches don't prevent or relieve migraines because they work on different pain pathways.

All you can do for yourself is learn as much as you can about your own personal migraine history - keep a diary of what you eat, drink, soaps, creams, perfume you use, etc. anything that can trigger a migraine and when you have them, and how long. Over time you'll figure out what the triggers are and then can avoid them.

I've linked to a book that might help you - check it out.

Do eye drops hurt?

No, not usually. Only on rare occassions when your eyes are already painfully irritated it can be uncomfortable. Of course, some eyes may be more sensitive to them than others, but mostly they are no more irritating than tears.

If eye drops make you nervous you can hold your head back, apply them at side of your eye near the tear duct and then 'roll' your head toward the eye you are applying them into and let the drops 'wash' over your eye.

What type of headache is characterized by throbbing pain on one side of the head?

There are more than 100 different headache disorders. Many of them cause throbbing or one sided pain. The most common of these is Migraine. For appropriate diagnosis and treatment, see your physician or a headache specialist.

Can you take bath if there is headache on top of head?

no, first take the headache off, then take the bath, because the headache on your head would apply pressure to your head whilst you have a headache.

Unless there is another reason for not bathing, a typical headache at the top of the head is not usually a reason for restricting normal personal care practices. If the headache is especially severe or in any other way abnormal, you should see a physician to be sure it is not something severe or dangerous causing the pain.

For appropriate diagnosis, treatment and prevention of headache disorders, seek the help of a board certified headache specialist.

Some people get migraines from: light smoke to little/to much sleep STRESS withdrawl: drugs, alcohol, smoke, chocolate etc weather changes circulation oxygen supply dehydration certain foods pet, food, environmental allergies The list goes on and on Making a journal of when your migraine started what you did, ate etc that day can help pinpoint the cause. But leaves the actual culprit range wide open to many activities persued that day. Good luck

How do you ween off depakote?

Ah, could be tricky. Depends on what withdrawal symptoms you are experiencing but a common method is to slowly decrease dosage. For example, Day1/Day2 dose=2mg, day3/day4 dose=1mg, day5/day6 .5mg. Of course, you will still experience slight withdrawal, but the only way to get over it is to completely stop usage. This method can apply to many other benzodiazepines also.

What does a migraine headache feel like?

Migraines are characterized by throbbing, stabbing pain which is usually located on one side of the head, although it can occur on both sides. There are other symptoms that occur with the pain, such as sensitivity to light, sound, and smells. Nausea and vomiting can also occur with a migraine, leaving the sufferer miserable and attached to the toilet for hours on end.

The severity of a migraine varies from person to person. Some people can simply take some Advil and they are fine, they can get through their day. Others have migraines that leave them completely incapacitated and even prescription medication does not help, they simply curl up in the dark and wait for it to end.

A sudden rise and/or drop in barometric pressure could cause a migraine because or the fact that your body needs to adjust to the change and the faster the change - the faster your body needs to react.

It is also because a change in weather can cause allergies to flare up and trigger a migraine.

Are cramps an early sign of pregnancy?

Yes, cramping *without bleeding* can be an early sign of pregnancy. Below, several women tell their personal experience with cramping and pregnancy:

  • Cramping can be a sign of implantation, which occurs very early in pregnancy. Also, your uterus gets crampy as things start growing! If your period is late, it's time to test.
  • Yes, cramping can be a normal sign of pregnancy. I asked my doctor about it and he said it is the body's way of preparing for the baby.
  • It could be. I was sure I would get my period since I was cramping a lot, but all the cramping was because my uterus was preparing for the baby.
  • I'm about 6 weeks pregnant with my second child and have just started experiencing some cramping that seems to come and go, but no bleeding whatsoever. My doctor says cramping in early pregnancy (unless accompanied by other symptoms like bleeding, fever, etc.) is completely normal.
  • I am six weeks pregnant. I have been having period like cramping for the last 2 weeks. I thought I was going to have my period, but instead I found out that I am pregnant. Don't worry unless the cramping is accompanied by bleeding.
  • Last month on cycle day 27, I took a pregnancy test and it was a very faint positive. Then several tests after that one were negative. Then I began to feel cramps like my period was coming, only lighter in intensity and of less duration, but my period didn't come until 2 weeks later and was heavy with clots. My doctor said that I had a chemical pregnancy - which is basically an early miscarriage, happens in up to 50% of pregnancies, most women don't even know they were pregnant. So while cramping could be a sign of pregnancy, it can also be a sign of your menstrual cycles following an early miscarriage.
  • I am in my first-trimester and cramping as we speak. For about 2 weeks before AF was due, I was experiencing abdominal cramps and discomfort. I think I ran to the bathroom tampon in hand for a week. My normally regular period never showed. I took a EPT and to my excitement, these cramps are just my little one making room.
  • I had cramping as if my period was going to start for a week. I was due for a period on May 3. I decided to take a pregnancy test on April 30th and to my surprise it was positive. So cramping could be a sign of pregnancy.
  • It seems that cramping in a lot of cases is normal but in my case it wasn't. Both times I have been pregnant I had cramping similar to my period. I took HPT that came out positive but when I went to the doctor my bloodwork was not normal and I had miscarriages both times around weeks 7-8. So while cramping can be perfectly normal, sometimes it isn't. Go to the doctor and have them do a blood test so you can have peace of mind.
  • I have a four year old and with my pregnancy with him I had pretty severe cramping from about the week before I found out I was pregnant until I was about 6-8 weeks pregnant and everything was perfectly normal. So try not to stress about it too bad. I worried myself sick and everything was fine.
  • Go to your doctor and get a blood test to make sure everything is perfectly fine, but cramping is probably just your body making room for your child.
  • I had bad cramping with this pregnancy (my second, first was a miscarriage) until I was almost 10 weeks. My OBGYN said he never worries about cramping unless you are also having spotting and/or bleeding. He said in most cases cramping is a very normal sign of pregnancy. I am now 15 weeks pregnant and everything is fine.
  • I just found out I was pregnant today. I was expecting my period 2 weeks ago. I had period-like cramps and the whole time and I had a pad on but nothing. So today my husband and I decided to get a home pregnancy test and it came out positive. So cramps but no bleeding is perfectly fine.
  • Yes - it certainly does. I thought I was getting my period, cramping and lower back ache for a few days. Just done a test and it's positive!
  • I told my husband for over a week that I would be starting my period that day because I was having cramping just like I would for my periods, now my pregnancy test is positive, with the cramping! Who would have thought that cramping could be a good thing?
