Can you take Lexapro for depression and Amitriptyline for migraines?

It may depend on the dosage. Lexapro is an SSRI. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant. Both of these kinds of medications work with serotonin, so usually only one will be used. However, tricyclic antidepressants are often used at low doses for preventative migraine therapy or chronic pain, rather than when used at higher doses for depression. Make sure you tell your prescribing doctors everything you are taking, and make sure to keep both your psychiatrist and headache specialist informed of any dosage changes to either medication.

Also make sure they are informed of any abortive migraine medications you are using, because the triptans also work with serotonin. And Ultram (generic: tramadol, with acetaminophen Ultracet) is a pain medication sometimes used for migraine pain partially works with serotonin as well.

What caused hitlers migraine headaches?

Adolf Hitler was a very busy man. Stress was a daily thing for him and Im sure he didnt eat as well as most political leaders with his status. He always felt he had to be in the middle of everything if was to be done right and so sleep was probably not something he got much of either. On top of all of this, there were many powerful people who, though under his command, didnt share his views on every little thing and so plots to assassinate him were quite abundant. Many believe that his own doctor, a man he trusted for many years, turned against him in his final years and started slowly poisoning Hitler with odd drug cocktails that probably helped drive him to his poor health and close to madness at the end of his reign.

So, Stress, poor eating habits, poor sleeping habits, and drugs......Yea that would do it.

Does Swine Flu cause severe migraine headache?

Yes; it does. My wife typically gets minor migraine headaches during her period times. With swine-flu, we had to take her to ER by Ambulance as the pain is so severe. The pain was almost 10 times more than her normal migraine (she could not speak because of the pain and was crying and screaming). She was positive for type A flu and further testing revealed she was positive for swine flu. However they could not explain her severe headache and the high blood pressure. Thought it was meningitis and did LP; they also did CT scans, etc. and could not find anything. She went through several CT scans, MRIs, MRVs, several blood tests and cultures, but still they could not find the reason for her severe throbbing/pulsating headache. She was put on high doses of morphine and several medications. She was in the hospital for 10 days.

Can asacol cause headaches?

Short answer is yes. Usually, if this occurs, it will be when you first start taking the drug or when you increase the dosage. Of course follow your doctors advice but what seems to work for me is back off for a week then start up again. I have been taking Asacol for some fifteen years now with minimum side affects but if I increase the dosage to much at once I do get headaches. It can also be effected by other drugs you may take. Asacol has been a lifesaver for me compared to where I was without it.

Can you mix maxalt and midrin for a migraine?

Maxalt (rizatriptan) is an abortive migraine medication, utilizing its function as a serotonin reuptake agonist to break into changes occurring in neurotransmitters during a migraine attack.

One of these changes includes constricting dilated blood vessels.

Midrin contains three different medications - acetaminophen (Tylenol), Dichloralphenazone (a combination sedative and pain reliever), and Isometheptene (a vessel constricting medication).

Due to both medications containing properties which constrict blood vessels, you should ask your headache specialist prior to taking these two medications together.

You are 35 weeks pregnant and have been taking excedrin for migraines is your unborn child going to be ok?

Answer

Tell your doctor what you have been doing. NEVER take any meds, OTC or prescription when pregnant without Doc's OK.

Further Info

Excedrin Migraine contains three ingredients.

Acetaminophen - Tylenol, has been deemed safe to take during pregnancy.

Caffeine - (in two tablets it is about the amount of two cups of coffee) Drinking small amounts of caffeine during pregnancy is generally seen as safe. If your blood pressure has become high enough that your doctor is now having to keep a close eye on you, especially if you are at risk for preeclampsia, then having the equivalent of two cups of coffee at once is definitely something you want to avoid.

The third ingredient in Excedrin is what may present a problem - aspirin.

Aspirin is in a group of medications called NSAIDs or non-steroidal-anti-inflammatories, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) are also in this group (and are also advised to be steered clear of during pregnancy, in most cases)

Aspirin is one of those medications that the majority of women will be told to stay away from during pregnancy. While a single dose is unlikely to cause a problem, taking the full adult dose repeatedly can cause problems. Taking it early in pregnancy is associated with increased risk for miscarriage. Late in pregnancy it can cause bleeding complications for both you and the baby.

That said - some women are candidates for low dose aspirin therapy during pregnancy. There has been evidence that it may actually help reduce the possibility of preeclampsia.

Aspirin is also something you do not want to have in your system while breastfeeding, because it is passed through breast milk. Children taking aspirin while they have a viral infection may develop Reye's Syndrome, a very serious medical condition. (On any packaging of meds containing aspirin, there is a warning about Reye's Syndrome and to not give aspirin to children under 18 years of age).

Excedrin Tension Headache has the acetaminophen and caffeine, without the aspirin. Excedrin PM contains the acetaminophen with diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Benadryl is Class B when it comes to pregnancy, meaning it hasn't been shown to cause problems, but they don't know enough to rule out that it could. Benadryl is sometimes used in the emergency room to help relieve migraine headaches. Either of these options would be something you could discuss with your doctor for OTC medications.
