What was Henry VIII like?

Henry VIII was the youngest son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. He was spoiled as a child because his brother, Arthur, was heir to the throne. That changed when Arthur died as a teenager. Henry was then pushed into the role of his dead brother. Henry married his brothers widow Catherine of Aragon not long after his fathers death and the two were crowned at Westminster.

As a young king he was thin, athletic, very intelligent, and red headed. Henry had a love for sports including tennis, jousting, and hunting. Henry was fluent in French, Latin, and Spanish. He had many horses, dogs, and falcons. And was also a lover of music and poetry.

Henry went to war several times through out his reign. Mostly with France and Scotland. He increased the British Navy from 5 ships to 53 ships.

Henry is most remembered for his liasons and wives. Henry married 6 times. He beheaded two wives, divorced two wives, one died, and one survived.

Henry also created the Church of England when the Pope refused to grant him a divorce from Catherine on the basis that it had never been valid.

Henry was in desperate need for a male heir and that as most of his reasoning for his divorces. He ended up having one illigetament son, Henry Fitzroy. Two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth. And one son, Edward. Henry Fitzroy would die of the sweat as a child. And all three other children inherited the throne. None of which would have any children of there own.

Henry was said to have had several other children out of wedlock but never chose to acknowledge them.

To some, Henry VIII was a strong and ruthless ruler.

An opposing opinion would be that Henry the 8th was a fat, blood thirsty man as he killed two of his wives and many of his friends.

Why is there a King with a Queen but no King when there is a Queen?

Because Elizabeth was the elder daughter of George VI and Elizabeth (the former Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon). The first-born child of the reigning monarch is the heir apparent. Had Elizabeth been male rather than female, then the UK would have a king. It is usual for the eldest son to inherit the throne (even if there is an older daughter), but when there is no son then the eldest or only daughter inherits.

1066 AD I believe, Edward the Confessor, Harold Godwinson , and William the Conqueror. Also in 1483 - when the house of york was restored after the wars of the roses there were three kings; Edward IV, Edward V and Richard III. It then happened again in 1936, George V died, Edward VIII took over, but then abdicated to marry an American woman not approved of by his family and so his younger brother George VIII took the throne.

What is divine right of rule?

If you believe you have the divine right to something, it means that you feel you are entitled to that thing because it was given to you by God. For example, in ancient Empirical China, the emperors would claim the throne because they felt they had the divine right to be in that position. It was given to them "from the Heavens."

Why were the doors and beds smaller in Tudor times?

Because in those days, the average age of people was shorter - Henry VIII was considered to be huge, and he had a rough height of 6ft. That answers the door question... Beds were shorter because back then people sat almost upright in bed, supported by pillows. This is because they believed that if you lay down flat on your bed, that was the position of the dead, so your soul would come out through your mouth and you would die, or the devil would enter through your mouth.

How long was Arthur Tudor's reign?

Arthur Tudor never reigned.

Arthur, Prince of Wales (19 September 1486 - 2 April 1502) was the first son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, and therefore, heir to the throne of England. He was the elder brother of Henry VIII. Arthur died 7 years before his father so he never inherited the throne.

He was prince of Wales though, from 1489 until his death in 1502.

Why was Queen Mary I a bad queen?

I guess it was not the Queen Mary of Scot but Queen Mary of England that was considered as evil. Actually Queen Mary is referred to as Bloody Mary. There is a popular game among the children known as bloody Mary too. She was very lured by the power of throne. Infact, she was the one who imprisoned Elizabeth because she was sure that she would not bear the England becoming catholic again. Mary was the one who almost killed each and every protestant and she undid all her father HenryVIII and his brother, Edward VI's hard work. This is why probably Queen Mary of England is known as to be evil.
