Just having a hole in the muffler won't cause smoke to form. Any smoke coming from an engine is caused by either environment changes (white smoke while engine is warming up), or an engine burning oil (blue smoke). Sometimes even a bad catalytic converter can cause smoke. The hole in the muffler simply gives the smoke a way out. Trying looking for external oil leaks or checking he oil level occasionally to see if it is burning oil.

You may see water vapor is there is a hole in the muffler but it wouldn't last long once the muffler warms up and the moisture is burned off. She shouldn't see actual smoke unless there is a problem with the engine.

the resonator is a separate part of the exhaust system not part of the muffler it is to change the tone of an engine sound some are mounted before the muffler and some after the muffler if you really want to remove it cut it off with a sawsall or chain cutter and weld in a piece of pipe or look at a aftermarket exhaust catalog many replacement pipes omit resonator's.

Sure you can but put a lot of pipe on it because if not you could burn up your exhaust valve in the engine. You need a little back pressure and that's what the extra pipe should be used for.

The 'inlet' on a muffler refers to the side in which the exhaust gasses from the manifold enter the muffler. The outlet is the side that the gasses exit out to the tail pipe/s.

I found a website by googling the part number. It is a warehouse called EMW. They seem to have a fairly accurate application guide. The seem to have come mostly on early 80s GM mid size models. I.E Malibu, Grand prix, camaro. Mostly 305s according to EMW.

Straits deffintly with 4" tips but ur gas milage is goin to go way down so I'd use flowmaster with tips or turndowns.

what happened to my nissan exalta '01 was, the idle got affected, the rpm goes up and down upto almost even dying and car body shaking as if it couldn't breath, i thought it was a servo/MAF or idle control valve issue, car struggled when coming to a stop or slowing down or during traffic as if it will stall but when at last i found a nice technician after i scout around without any charged checked the alignment of distributor and he found misaligned, he corrected it, made small adjustment on the idle control and it fixed the issue, he said it's like a puzzle, he did not even charge me at all and now the car runs like new :-)

on an ultra classic especially you are experiencing drag when you slow down and when you are driving, different gas often can be stronger smelling depending for example i put 91 octane and when i drive down the road i can smell exhaust both when driving and backing off, i some times can remedy it with the wind baffles closed on front on the bike, for what ever reason opening up those baffles creates more flow of the exhaust to come back over the bike. Any thing you can do to change the drag factor behind that luggage rack to improve or eliminate the issue also different pipes, leaning out the fuel mix i have a road king (03) with rinehart headers and do not have any fuel smells but the ultra makes me almost sick!
