Is my car damaged if it has white smoke?
if i remember correctly..white smoke should mean that your piston rings are leaking oil into the compression chamber...but it just depends on if you have it coming out of the exhaust or if it is just coming from under the car.....in that case you just have oil leaking on the exhaust. in the first case...its gonna mean a complete engine teardown and rebuild.
Is a longer or shorter exhaust more efficient for performance in a dirt racecar?
The short exhaust should be more efficient and increase power.
What is a dual exhaust system?
it has 2 mufflers. the exhaust pipe splits into two pipes and the you got a muffler on each side of the car...
Have white smoke coming out of the exhaust just starting out then goes away?
Really need more info. YEAR and ENGINE SIZE:
But it sounds like a bad head gasket, Or crack in the cylinder head. A engine always gets hotter for a short period of time when it is shut off. Example -- IF the engine temperature while driving down the road is 195 degrees a bad head gasket or a crack in the head may not open at 195 degrees and you think you have no problem. But as soon as you shut it off , The engine temperature rises to probley 210 are so degrees and that is hot enough to make the cylinder head gasket or crack in the head to leak for a very short time, and dearing that time engine coolant leaks into the cylinder puddling on the top of the piston Then when you start it in the morning it smokes white until it burns the coolant out of that cylinder. The problem will only get worse, Needs fixed now before you have major engine damage.
Heat makes things expand, Cold makes things contract. A crack will only open at a certain degrees of heat.
What is a flex pipe and how does it work?
It is a flexible section of pipe in the exhaust system that helps absorb some of the engine vibrations.
What does it mean if i got white smoke coming out of my tailpipe?
White smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber, especially if you are loosing coolant with no apparent leak. Most likely cause is a blown head gasket or cracked head. STOP, driving the car immediately. Severe engine damage will occur if you continue to run this engine. You must have this repaired ASAP.
What does it mean when Engine making loud noises and blue smoke from exhaust?
Blue smoke is oil burning. Loud noises in the engine means internal engine problems. Time for a complete overhaul of this engine.
* silencer: a tubular acoustic device inserted in the exhaust system that is designed to reduce noise * a scarf worn around the neck * damper: a device that decreases the amplitude of electronic, mechanical, acoustical, or aerodynamic oscillations
Why is your 1999 ford F150 white smoke from pipe?
Hey there
You did not mention anything about overheating, coolant loss or your transmission
shifting funny. I mention these because white smoke out the tailpipe usually means there is coolant leaking inside the combustion chamber
inside the engine or there is automatic transmission fluid
leaking inside the combustion chamber.
The first thing I would look for would be is your radiator low on coolant? If so, I would get a cooling system pressure test to determine if there is an internal coolant leak in your engine. Blown head gaskets are the first thing that comes to mind here and this pressure test should reveal this to you.
If you do find you have a blown head gasket or some other internal coolant leak I would recommend you try this over the counter product first before you spend any big bucks overhauling the engine.
If the pressure test determines the coolant is not leaking, then you might want to see if your transmission is equipped with a vacuum transmission modulator valve on the side of the transmission.
This valve will have a rubber vacuum line attached to it, if you remove the vacuum line from the valve and transmission fluid comes out you need to replace the transmission modulator valve.
If you suspect an internal coolant leak like a head gasket problem try doing this FIRST
Blown Head Gasket
In addition to mufflers what new equipment is required on all cars manufactured in 1968 and after?
all 1968 or later models must be equipped with an exhaust emission system to help reduce air pollution. :)
Catalytic converter
Why does s10 exhaust sound loud when cold?
Cars are distinctly louder upon cold start-up. Tolerances are tighter because things are colder, therefore everything's a bit louder. This happens to pretty much every car ever. If it's been colder overnight there than it has been in the last week or so (I know temperatures here have been all over the place for a month), you may just be noticing it now - because it would have normal over the winter.
How can you turn a single exhaust car into a dual exhaust?
by having a exhaust shop weld on a y pipe then just run the dual pipes out the back
How much does it cost to replace a muffler on a 2000 Nissan Xterra?
It's probably a original equipment one piece unit still (extension, Muffler & tailpipe). To replace the 3 pieces will probably be between $250.00-$400.00 depending on supplier.
Brown smoke comes from burning fossil fuel, usually fuel oil.
Why is gas coming out of your exhaust?
The motor in your car does not burn the fuel completely, and what is left over is excreted into the atmosphere.
What could cause smoke in the passenger compartment in a subaru legacy?
The only thing that causes smoke in a car is something burning. Steam or vapor coming from the air conditioner can also look like smoke. More detail especially where the smoke seems to be coming from would be helpful. This sounds like something that needs immediate attention and you should not be driving the car if you cannot find the origin of the smoke.
A car's tailpipe blows black smoke while cruising at 45 mph what is the cause?
The car's fuel system is very "rich". You are probably getting terrible gas mileage. See your mechanic.
What causes smoke from exhaust when accelerating?
It depends what color the smoke is.
Blue:
Blue smoke indicates burning oil (this is the most common). If the car is older, or has high mileage, than most likely the piston rings have worn down and oil is getting by the piston as it moves down the cylinder wall. It then gets burned with the fuel, which produces the blue smoke. The faster you go, the more smoke pours out of the car. If this is what's happening, keep an eye on your oil level. You will definitely have to add some between oil changes. This would be very expensive to fix, so I would recommend continue driving the car and adding oil, but start saving up for a new one.
White:
White smoke is not such a good thing. It means that coolant/antifreeze has gotten into the cylinder and is burning with the fuel. This should not be happening. If your car is burning white smoke (not just the white exhaust on a cold day, but consistently produces white smoke), first check your coolant tank and monitor the levels for a while and note if it's going down a lot. You should also look at the coolant and see if oil is mixing with it. Also pull out the dipstick and look for coolant that was contaminated the oil. Look for green spots on the dipstick, or an oil consistancy of chocolate milk. If the coolant is mixing with the oil, and you continue to drive the car, the car is not getting the proper lubrication it needs, and the engine can sieze at any minute (this will junk the car). The mixing is caused by a blown head gasket(most likely), possibly a blown intake manifold gasket, or worst case scenario, a cracked head. If the gasket is the problem, your looking at about $700 in a shop.
Black:
If you have black smoke coming out the end, it means that too much fuel is being dumped into the cylinder, and not all of it has the chance to burn. This is caused by a clogged air filter, muffler or injector, faulty fuel-management computer, fuel pump, a faulty injector, or on older cars, a poorly tuned carburetor. This is a cause for your lost engine power and wasted money as well as the excessive pollution which kills 5 million people a year.
The clutch throw-out bearing may be failing.
How much does it cost to repair a Mazda Protege 5 engine and muffler?
Brand new engines are quite expensive, around $7000. I would suggest buying a used engine from a garage that has LOW mileage. I did this in my 2002 Mazda Protege 5 3 years ago and it's running great. I paid 2500 for the engine w/ installation. I would NOT recommend a rebuilt engine b/c those have higher rates of failure. Hope this helps for the engine...The muffler is something I have NO idea about.
