There are 7 continents

N.America

S.America

Europe

Asia

Africa

Australia

Antarctica

Oceania is a region centered on the islands of the tropical Pacific Ocean. Definitions of what constitutes Oceania range from the coral atolls and volcanic islands of the South Pacific to the entire insular region between Asia and the Americas, including Australasia and the Malay Archipelago.

The term is sometimes used more specifically to denote a continent comprising Australia and proximate islands.

The 7 continents listed above are almost universally recognized as "the continents." In some contexts it makes sense to group the landmasses differently, so other definitions, while unusual, can be made but since they are out of the norm, any different way of classification than the 7-continent group above would have to be accompanied by an explanation of how the term "continent" was being used.

What did General Pitcairn want at Lexington Green?

Major Pitcairn's actions on the Lexington Green were an unplanned accident, and it is fair to say he didn't want anything at Lexington itself. The overall goal of the expedition was to get to Concord in order to disarm the local militias. Pitcairn was not in command of the expedition, yet he was the ranking officer on site when hostilities broke out.

Major Pitcairn of the Royal Marines commanded the British troops on the Lexington Green by chance. The expedition was commanded by Lt Col Francis Smith of the 10th Regiment of Foot, but Smith being a portly man fell back from the front during the march.

The troops were sent to Concord to collect the arms and ammunition of the local militias. This was part of General Gage's plan to reduce the probability of open hostilities between the British and the Colonists.

The troops were confronted on the Green by about 50 Minutemen (colonial troops designed to be ready at a minute's notice). Pitcairn ordered the Lexington Minutemen to disperse, (the standing order of the day) but somebody fired a shot. To this day, nobody knows who fired this shot. Both sides were under the order don't fire unless fired upon. After the shot, both sides fired. The Minutemen were dispersed, and six were dead.

Pitcairn continued the march to Concord and was part of the subsequent retreat to Boston when inflamed Provincial Militias attacked the British Troops from all angles. Pitcairn himself had a horse shot out from under him, but he survived the day. He went on to command a force of Royal Marines at the Battle of Bunker Hill later in 1775, but he was killed in action.
