Try to define your product (and sell to your market) in such a way that you are able to get interest in something that you would be able to deliver in the course of 3 months or so -- 6 at most. Try to avoid getting hooked into developing something that takes a year or more to develop unless people have signed on the dotted line already and paid for at least part of its development. Perhaps have those with a vested interest pay when certain development milestones are reached and demoed to them, to show their good faith and true interest in the product. (This is, of course, if your product is for a vertical market versus a horizontal one.)

It is an application, not a part of the operating system. Microsoft Word does not come automatically with any operating system. It has to be bought separately. It will run on Windows 7, but it is not a part of Windows 7. So it does not come with Windows 7.

I believe you press Alt + F to access the Office Menu

That actually only brings up the file menu for the application that currently has the input focus. It does not necessarily work for any arbitrary application having the focus. It probably depends on which version of office you have, and what version of windows you are running. In my case, Office Pro 2007 on XP Pro, I do not see a global shortcut key to get to a "master" office menu. If someone knows, please refine this answer.

As far as I know, it is .PUB up through MS Publisher 2013.

The Open Office download (See links below) is a disc image file (.dmg). Double click on the .dmg icon and you are presented with an icon labelled openoffice.org and another icon which is an alias to your Applications folder. Cntrl + C = Copy (Will copy Text, but not erase it from the spot you are copying from.)

1. Impress is free. Being Open Source - Impress is free to download and make your own modifications. PowerPoint on the other hand can set you back at current prices around £171 or $197 (so why exactly is it almost twice as much in the UK?)

2. Export to Flash. If you want to put your slides online it is pretty hard going in PowerPoint. With Impress you can export your slides to Flash. Sure it is pretty basic and you lose all animation, but it is easy to put online.

3. Eyedropper tool. The eyedropper tool allows you to pick up a colour from an object or from a picture. You can do this in Photoshop, but it means opening up a new application. In Impress it is a tool within the application.

4. Visual indicator on the crop tool. It is pretty easy to crop images from within Impress. You have a measurement of how much you are cropping and you can also see the area to be cropped.

5. You can import PowerPoint files and you can save as PowerPoint.

While not a benefit over PowerPoint it makes it very easy to migrate from PowerPoint to Impress. Microsoft employed this trick in the early 90s when most users migrated from Lotus 1-2-3 to Excel.

In computer software a toggle is something that is either on or off and can be alternated between these two settings.
