Is olive oil safe to drink?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A tablespoon or two of it can't hurt you, and it is a mono-unsaturated (healthy) fat - some people take a few tablespoons of it if they are going to be in for some heavy drinking (like a class reunion, or whatnot) because it will coat the stomach walls, slowing the absorption of alcohol.

It is, well, "oily", but has a sweet, nut-like flavor. Now, drinking a glass or two of it would be foolish and serves no purpose - and might actually make you very sick. A tablespoon or two of maple syrup wouldn't hurt you either - but a couple of glasses full of it? Ugh!

Why do you use olive oil in bread?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have before; out of necessity. In my experience, heavier grains do not work as well... the bread did not rise wasn't nearly as fluffy compared to regular cooking oil (with white bread there was not a noticeable difference). Although, if you are making pizza dough or pretzels, I definitely prefer using olive oil.

Does olive oil help your hair?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Olive oil is used for a number of reasons. Many people use it to add volume to your hair and make it softer. It can be used to condition your hair without fading the hair dye. It's also good for your skin. The main advantage to it is that it doesn't dry your hair out.

It is also a common ingredient in homemade shampoos because it's easy to find and its not as damaging to the environment as many chemicals are.

Can you use extra virgin olive oil for muffins?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on what type of muffins you're baking. Extra virgin olive oil is the most flavorful of olive oils, being the product of the first pressing of the olives; therefore, it has a very distinct, olive-like flavor. So, if you're making sweet muffins, it would be better to use canola or vegetable oil. Those oils don't really have much flavor, and won't affect the taste. But, if you're making muffins that are heartier (using bran or granola or nuts, and very little, if any, sugar/fruit), then olive oil may be an interesting flavor to add.

You can substitute just about any liquid fat with another liquid fat lol (except perhaps fat that has been liquified like melted lard or butter, you would have to adjust the dry ingredients or else the cookies may not hold their shape before they have a chance to set in the oven).

Is Olive Oil the same as Sweet Oil for the ear?

User Avatar

Asked by Annieoonnie2

Warm olive oil may be warmed and dripped into the ear that has a wax build-up,manipulate the back of the ear whilst head is tilted and plug with a little cotton-wool making sure not too push the wool into the ear too much as it is only needed to keep the oil from running out to quick.Repeat this a few times a day for 3 days and you will notice the softened wax coming out onto the cotton wool.It is safe to continue doing this until you can feel that the wax has gone which will be when your hearing returns to normal.

Can you use olive oil on your face?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

While there's a lot of debate over this topic, I'd say yes. Olive oil is similar to natural face oils, contains vitamins A, E and K (I know A and E can be absorbed into the skin, not sure about K), and helps the skin stay moisturized.

When people object to the use of olive oil on the skin, it's usually because they assume that any sort of oil clogs the pores and adds to oil buildup on the face. What they don't realize is that oils are produced by the face because they are necessary (in proper amounts) in skin protection and hydration . Using soaps and other harsh chemicals (acne medications etc) tend to excessively dry the skin. This can lead to excessive dryness and inflammation, which can cause wrinkles and acne. As well, dry skin forces your oil glands to step up production, causing excessive oil production, leading to an oily appearance.

Olive oil can be used in tandem with castor oil for an excellent facial cleanser (look up the oil cleaning method for lots of articles), which clears away dead skin and bacteria and unclogs pores while not stripping the skin's oils.

Olive oil can also be used on its own after cleansing for a moisturizer. When used sparingly, your skin will feel soft, without an oily sheen.

Do cats eat olive oil?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

CATS LIKE OLIVES??????? i havent heard that one before. but cats do have some very weird tastes for human foods, and not all of them should be eaten. I really dont suggest feeding or letting your cat have too many olives, unless you have a reason to think otherwise. but yes, cats can like some very strange things. my suggestion? get used to it. mostly, it is ok. my cat liked to drink melon juice. yeah, weird. i know You may want to look up on google and find the list of toxic food/plants list for cats. Just because your cat likes it doesn't mean it's safe. My cat loved chewing the lily petals (which i put away "safely" i thought, but I guess it was still reachable by my cats...), but those can be toxic to them. Now I keep telling my husband to stop buying lilies, but... he loves lilies... So we just try our best to keep it away from cats when we get them.

What risk is taken if you use expired Grape Seed Oil?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Probably not much. The expiration date usually refers to a supplements' potency, so chances are the oil won't be as fresh or whatnot. Assuming oil is kept in good conditions, it can last for a very long time. It's possible that your oil has gone rancid, but if it hasn't, it's probably alright to use, though the effectiveness might have decreased.
