What tasks are involved in operating a website?

It all depends on if the website is active and has many visitors. You can look into starting a blog with the website called blogger or wordpress or grabbing your own domain name from Godaddy and getting some website and webhosting from TemplateDrop with nice website templates, ready to go. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Frontpage, Dreamweaver, and Adobe Flash are a few tools that web designers use. Yes, all of this may seem a bit much but that's why colleges are offering BA's in web design now. My advice is for you to use website templates.

This depends on what you're going to be using the computer for.

If you plan on using it for movies, photos and daily activities like note taking and surfing the web your going to want are larger hard drive to store all your data. Aim for 750 gb to 1 tb.

If your editing pictures and movies you'll want the larger hard drive along with higher RAM and a stronger CPU. Nowadays many editing software will come with multi-core support so getting a quad-core or higher will be a bonus.

If you plan on playing graphic intensive games you'll want everything listed above along with a video card. An onboard graphic card is okay if you just want to get by, but aim for a separate video card that is not onboard.

Will reinstalling your mac os x delete all of your files?

If I remember right, if you Archive and Install it will only erase the CORE operating system and not the other files. It just re-installs over the OS.

You may have to reinstall some 3rd party applications but the other files and folders SHOULDN'T be touched. If you do an Erase and Install it will wipe the HD clean and install a brand new OS.

Make a backup just to make sure. The USB external HD housings are real cheap and you can buy your own HD to put in it for a backup drive.

Why is Unix more portable than other operating systems?

Unix was rewritten in the C programming language and not in assembly language. The migration from assembly language to the higher-level language C resulted in much more portable software, requiring only a relatively small amount of machine-dependent code to be replaced when porting Unix to other computing platforms.

Unix manages the hardware and the executing processes by the kernel. The kernel is a collection of programs written in C which directly communicate with the hardware. applications communicate to system using kernal. Hence kernal need to be changed for different hardware but user interface remains same.

Among other things, the OS manages the memory, does traffic control for the various programs, and loads drivers to control the low-level hardware functions to make the devices usable,

Advantages of buffer cache in unix?

There are several different places that a buffer cache can exist. All have the one thing in common - they are places where data being read from or written to a device is temporarily stored in some medium that is faster than the backing device.

In the case of read caches, a buffer cache can store frequently requested data on a medium that is considerably faster than the underlying device, which speeds up the return of that data to the requesting program. It can also be used to assemble data received out of order (such as from a network interface) into a more presentable form, or can be used to assemble asynchronous data into fixed-size chunks for processing.

In the case of write buffer caches, they are used to smooth out small I/O writes into larger streaming writes (which provides better write performance). They can also be used to assemble smaller bits of information into a larger packet for transmission out a network interface.

Why is OS necessary?

Mac OSX is the operation system of a mac. it is necessary because the OS is the GUI (graphic user interface) which makes all the programs run in individual windows and the Dock and all that good stuff. also, all the programs run within the OS so without the OS there is pretty much nothing the computer can do except start up and go DONNNNNGGGG.
