If you mean do you need your Mexican passport for domestic flights within the USA I think I read somewhere that non-US citizens do (I think US citizens can use photo ID such a driving license or Passport Card instead).
So if a Mexican is in the USA illegally I think they'll just have to travel by bus or train, or drive. Since if you do need your passport for domestic flights to check in someone may notice the passport doesn't have the correct visa in.
Mexicans can visit Britain or Ireland without a visa for up to 6 months though, and Schengen (most other EU states) for 3 months. So come here ;)
Actually, for travel inside the United States, some form of "official" government ID is all that is required. A Mexican (or other country's) passport certainly suffices, but so would a US State's Driver's license, U.S. "Green Card", etc. Hell, I've even seen a U.S. corporation's photo ID tag used in conjunction with a credit card to "prove" identity. Internal to the U.S., the question is not one's Immigration Status (unless, of course, you are applying for a job or public benefits), but of IDENTITY. That is, organizations are concerned with having you prove who you are, NOT that you have proper immigration status.

All you need is to do is contact the Consulate that is responsible for your location by phone or post, Request a form which will have all the instructions enclosed to complete your passport renewal.

As of November 2007, you will need to visit the nearest consulate in person since you will need to provide fingerprints at the time of the renewal.

The down side: The USA is hated in a lot of countries. Some countries will refuse entrance or Visas. Canada My other passport. You pay Visa fees in a lot more countries but travel a lot more inconspicuous than US passport holders in a lot of countries. Many countries that don't allow US passport holders are easy to get Visas for Canadians. These countries do not carry your US passport in even hidden your luggage!

A US-Passport, and if you just planning to stay below 90 days you should be fine. But after that period of time you might need to leave Peru, or apply for a visa. If your planning to work or reside you might need to have an special job qualifications, if not you might be deported and the Peruvian officers might take you to the border with Chile, or Ecuador and leave you there till you get all your documents in order. You have a wonderful time there.
