Key stuck in ignition on your 406 Help please?
just had the same problem and it seams that it is the ignition switch behind the barrel but i am trying to find someone who knows where the relese pin is and in which position the key has to be in
There is no specific position where the key has to be.... It all happens when you switch off the car in turning position of the wheel. When ever you feel you are trying to ignit switch and looks like, it is lock or you are unalble to turn the switch on.... only turn your wheel and try again. That's it. Your key will be released enabling you to turn the key in order to ingnition...
How do you remove the cigar lighter in series 1 406?
To remove the cigar lighter in a Series 1 Peugeot 406, first ensure the vehicle is turned off and the keys are removed. Use a flathead screwdriver or a similar tool to gently pry around the edges of the lighter socket to release it from the dashboard. Carefully disconnect the wiring harness attached to the back of the lighter. Once disconnected, you can pull the lighter out completely.

When do you need to change the cam-belt on a 406 2.0 hdi?
I do mine (taxi fleet of 4, and formerly had year-2000 306 2.0HDi fleet the same) every 50-60thousand miles, = approximately 80,000km.
If you have just bought the car, do it anyways. Don't believe a dealer (even a main dealer) or salesman, even if they have "proof" on paper. Just do it. My last ones cost £30 parts (40 Euros) and 2 hours labour.
I do not buy genuine Peugeot ones, just a reputable brand that the garage trusts.
I think the recommended by Peugeot is something like 120,000km.
Big repair if it fails.
How do you change the front fog lamp on a Peugeot 306?
My lad just replaced them on our 306 TD, they are the square ones that fit in to the front bumper. They are fastened on at the bottom by a large nut. As you face the headlights right hand one is accessed via an access hole in bottom of bumper and left hand is more easily accessed same way. Suggest you spray first with WD40 as they were fairly tight, had to swivel side to side & tap them using a piece of bar to get them out. Also had to flex the plastic back while someone did the tapping in order to get them out of the bumper hole. The wiring comes in via a shaped grommet that pops out & back in easily. One light was broke and other badly corroded so replaced with a pair made by Ring that got off ebay(genuine ones go for a lot), new ones look & work great; they are marginally smaller but that made easier to refit. Good luck.
