The only thing needed to wire HEI is a good positive wire. It needs to be from a wire that is "hot" when the key is turned on...but not when it's off. Use 10-12 gauge wire. Nothing smaller than 14. Run that wire to the positive side of the coil/cap. There are two possible places to run this....but you will find one is marked "tach". That's for the signal feed for a tachometer. Everything else in an HEI is self contained.

GM had a self imposed 400 ci limit for intermediates. It was lifted in 1970 and they started to use the 455. Prior to 1970 the 428 was only used in full size models.

Depends on the year and the induction system. In 1964 389 4bbl was rated at 325Hp 389 tripower was 348hp. In 1965 ratings were raised to 335 for the 4bbl and 360 for the tri power. Of course all these were "gross" rating which cannot directly be compared to the sae net ratings listed from 1972 forward.

The 1974 Ventura based GTO was made in Willow Run, Michigan. The 2004-2006 GTOs were made in Austrialia by Holden and imported to the US. If you want to be technical the 1972-1974 GTO was only an option on the lemans and ventura, the last US made GTO MODEL was the 1971.

try pulling headlamp switch out inspect the plug for melted terminals especially the brown wire also check h/lamp switch terminals for burn marks. also a bad turn signal switch will cause probs,

I experienced poor acceleration in my '95 Chevy blazer, which eventually became so severe that when accelerating, the engine nearly stalled.It turned out that my catalytic converter was disintegrating, and choking off the exhaust so severely that the backpressure was causing engine retardation. I took the vehicle to a muffler shop, where they performed a backpressure test on the exhaust to diagnose the problem. After replacing the catalytic converter, the problem was corrected.

first symptom of a vacuum leak would be a shaky idle also a trained ear will listen for a hiss around a vacuum hose also the engine miss usually goes away as engine rpm is increased.find the cylinder that does not changethe way the car runs by pulling spark plug wires off one atr a time with insulated ignition pliers if you have seven cylinders that are strong and one that barley changes idle when you pull spark to that cylinder chances are there is a vacuum lek to the weak cylinder.follow any vacuum hose that lead to the wek cylinder spray carb cleaner on intake manifold gasketr while engine running. if engine smoothes out while spraying gaskets,air is probally entering causing that cylinders fuel ratio to be lean. also egr valves are known to cause intrernal vacuum leaks. a good tech should finbd it in 15 minutes
