They wore simple robes tied with a robe and with a hood. The bathrobe we have today looks a bit like what they wore. Priests and monks were poor and dressed that way.

Why do priest not marry?

It was decided in 1074 by Pope Gregory VII that anyone ordained must first pledge celibacy and married priests must leave the wives. Pope Urban II had priests wives sold into slavery, children were abandoned in 1095. In 1123 the First Lateran Council confirmed that clerical marriages were invalid, but in the 15th century 50% of priests were married and accepted by the people. The Council of Trent in 1545-63 states celibacy and virginity are superior to marriage.

What does it mean when you dream about a priest in pink?

It means you dream about a king and his daughter......... or a King who loves pink and has a pink palace...... maybe for his Queen.....

This dream is difficult to interpret meaningfully with such limited information. More importantly, there does not appear to be any reason to associate the priest in the description with a king of any sort.

> A "priest" could refer to many different types of religious official, from a Lutheran or Episcopal or Roman Catholic clergy person to a Vouduan shaman. The color pink is generally associated with femininity in the U.S., but that might not be significant since outside of Catholicism, a priest might be male or female, and the color pink has different meanings in different cultures.

What did the priest say to Marie Antoinette?

I think you refer to the priest that walked her to the scaffold after stepping of the carage. He said to her: "This is the moment, Madame, to arm yourself with courage." Her reply was: "Courage! I have shown it for years; do you think I shall lose it at the moment when my sufferings are to end?"

What do Maronite priest wear?

Maronite priests up until the Second Vatican Council wore Latin-style vestments. Now they are going back more toward the Syriac vestments of their forebears, this is from the Catholic Answers website, also see the link below the answer box for pictures.

Actually there is no more than a tangential relation to the Chaldean style. The Maronite style is almost identical to the SOC/SCC, and includes the phaino ("cope"), zonouro (belt), hamnicho (stole which is either one single piece or, more commonly, two connected, similar to the Byzantine epitrachelion), amice (for a priest sometimes appareled, sometimes not, depending on the individual, but always appareled for a bishop). The cuffs are (unfortunately) optional. Bishops add the batersheel (analagous to the omophorion).

The Chaldeans (and the ACoE), OTOH, use what is almost (if not absolutely) identical to a Latin cope (including fringe on the flat hood), and a Latin-style (i.e. unconnected) stole. They do not wear the cuffs, nor (for the sake of simplicity, what I'll call) the appareled amice.

What would you do if you were a priest?

When a man is ordained as a priest, he is ordained by a particular bishop for that bishop's diocese. For instance, I live in the diocese of Raleigh (eastern North Carolina) so when men are ordained for this diocese they are ordained by the Bishop of Raleigh. During the ordination ceremony, the deacon to be ordained puts his hands, in the prayer position, inside the hands of the bishop and swears obedience to him and to his successors. Once he is ordained, he remains in that diocese (or religious order) for life. Very occasionally, for good reason, a man might request a transfer, but he would have to get formal written permission from another bishop that would be willing to accept him, and formal written permission from his own bishop allowing such a transfer. No priest is ever without a bishop over him, to whom he has pledged his obedience lifelong. So the short answer is "whatever the Bishop requires of him". There are two kinds of priests, secular and religious. Secular priests are ordained by the Bishop of a diocese to serve in that diocese, religious priests are ordained to serve in an Order, for instance, the Benedictines, or the Jesuits. The former usually run parishes, although there are priests in administration, teaching at schools, running the legal system, etc. Order priests have a particular charism of their order. Most Benedictines are in monasteries, and run schools. The Jesuits also run schools.

Does is say in the Bible that priest can not marry?
