What do elementary school teachers do on a daily basis?

Teachers' work days are different everywhere you go. Sometimes they are for the teacher to work in their classrooms, playing catch up or getting ahead. Sometimes teachers have meetings to attend all day for the district, building, or teaching team. ---- Upon arrival at school, an elementary teacher prepares for the day by organising displays and ensuring resources and worksheets are available. Morning begins with calling the roll, and starting on the first lesson of the day, which is usually maths or a language-based lesson (e.g. reading or writing). As well as formal instruction, the children undertake individual work and activities to develop their skills in a particular area. These are monitored by the teacher, who guides the children, assisting the less independent and those needing support, and encouraging the more skilled children. Teachers constantly field questions and encourage discussions, and also monitor the relationship dynamics, sometimes having to mediate arguments between both friends and enemies. Lessons continue through the day, some being along the lines of science, history, geography, etc. The children may be delivered to another specialist teacher at some stage during the day, such as music or physical education. During break times, teachers are usually required to take playground duty at some stage. Towards the end of the day, the teacher may go over particular homework assignments, before having the children clean up and pack up their area before being dismissed for the day. After school, the teacher still needs to prepare for the following day by organising worksheets and resources, and mark children's work, recording their progress in particular areas.

How do you know if your child is ready for kindergarten?

Your local schools should have tests that your child can take to see if he or she is academically ready. However, many children are academically ready, but not emotionally or socially ready. You can talk to a counselor or a friend about your child's social skills too, but trust your instincts. You know your child better than anyone and if you don't think that she is emotionally or socially ready she probably isn't. Another good thing to do is to look at your child's birth date. If he or she is going to be the youngest in the class, it may be better to wait a year. Sometimes waiting that extra year is all a child needs to be more confident about school.

Should school holidays be longer?

Whether or not a school celebrates the holiday is up to the district. In most elementary schools, a "winter party" (to be politically correct ) is held before winter break. Also, many elementary schools hold Valentines day and Halloween parties. In Australia, it is also up to individual state and public schools which holidays they choose to celebrate.

Within Christian schools, Christian holidays should be celebrated, because that is what the parents should have agreed to before enrolling their children. It is part of the child's education, and there should be no disagreement, as the school's mission statement clearly outlines that the school is based on Christian ideology.

How do you become a teacher in a Montessori school?

Becoming certified to teach Montessori involves a few first steps. After you have chosen to embrace the Montessori way, you should find a program that will certify you. Most programs will require you to engage in a 'sleep-away' program at which you will hit the books, observe and be observed engaging lessons. Some students prefer distance-learning Montessori teacher training due to the lifestyle-friendly aspect of an online program. Some online programs are just as rushed as the sleep-away programs, resulting in a cerfication for the individual, but little understanding of the core concepts. One distance program that works at the individual's pace and ensures comprehension over speed is The Center for Guided Montessori Studies. Check out more at www.GuidedStudies.com.

Should primary school students choose their own subjects?

Man! I am doing this subject in debating! I am negative so in my opinion, no, primary students should not. There are many important subjects needed to be learned at the start, and then improved in later grades, like Maths and English. Like starting anything, in the beginning you learn the basics. Primary school is the beginning of proper education, so you learn the subjects. Then High School is where you help improve your skills. In Primary school, you have to head straight in and learn the subject. However, you are not starting right from the beginning again in High School, so in High School you can choose your subjects. However it is my strong belief that no, primary school students should NOT get to choose their subjects because they are starting off first learning the important stuff. Please don't take my answer like it's law, and like you'll be beheaded for disagreeing or anything! You can disagree because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Oh yeah, and it may be a little weird that I am disagreeing to this, chz I'm only in Primary myself! LOL XD!

If you have a girlfriend in elementary school how do you get them to kiss you?

Just tell him you love kissing him and if he doesn't take the hint that he should kiss you at school, then he is simply idiotic a boyfriend should kiss his girlfriend at all times. In front of friends, behind backs, in front of the whole school, wherever. I'm a dude and if I didn't kiss my girlfriend at school, we'd never really kiss. But just try to tell him if he really likes/loves you, he'd kiss you at school.
