Protestantism

Generally associated with the protests against the Catholic Church and its methods, Protestants follow Jesus Christ. One of the early scholars to lead the break from the established church was Martin Luther. If you have questions about anything to do with Protestantism, this is place to ask them.

== == One may also be assigned a certain number of repitions of the Hail Mary to say after confession for penance.

Since the Hail Mary is a prayer, it can be recited in private at any time and is part of many devotions. Publicly, it is often reserved for before special events, during the Rosary, to ask for a grace, at the reception of a special grace, in times of good and evil, before death, after low mass, etc.

What are the differences between the Church of the Nazarene and Southern Baptist?

Southern Baptist are calvanist. They believe you "sin every day in word thought and deed". However, this is a point of controversy in many Southern Baptist churches today. It can certainly be said that some Southern Baptists are Calvinists, but most do believe in attempting to live a life of holiness. Nazarens believe that sin is not a part of your every day life when you serve the Lord. We believe that you CAN fall from grace by deliberate sin against God. Southern Baptists do not believe that you can lose your salvation. It is a free gift of God. However, we do believe that God cannot fellowship with someone who continues to live in sin and that God does punish his children if they do not return to him. We believe that if you fall back into sin, you can be forgiven. Southern Baptists also believe that you can be forgiven. Most Baptist believe you become a christian, then continue to sin daily. This is a common misunderstanding of Baptist doctrine. We do believe that the possibility and free choice includes the decision as to whether or not to sin. Temptation does exist in the world, and it is ever-present. We are faced with choices as to whether to follow God's Word or to give in to temptation many times in our lives. However, Baptists certainly do not condone living in sin. We do not believe that sin is inevitable and you should not even try. We do believe that sin is possible for a Christian, that God reveals the sin to the person through the Holy Spirit, and that if the person does not repent from the sin, punishment is inevitalbe. If a person lives daily in sin without punishment or without feeling condemned and guilty, that person was likely not a Christian in the first place. Those who are truly God's children do not want to participate in anything that will break their fellowship with God...just as a child wants to please their parent. Parents punish the willful disobedience of children, which shows that they love their children and want to guide them to be the best person they can be. God also loves his children and disciplines them when they need it. He does not discipline someone else's child. However, if you love God with all your heart, what does it matter. The point is, when your desire is to serve Him, you desire to serve him should lead you away from WANTING to sin regardless. Therefore, my thoughts here, are to put my Trust in Christ to lead me in the correct action and paths for my life. On this, we both agree.

Which book in the NIV Bible states something about a whistling woman and a cackling hen always come to a no good end?

My research has shown that the saying "A whistling woman & a crowing hen are neither good for God nor men" is an old Irish proverb and is not from the Bible at all.

Additional research confirms that none of the word combinations, "whistling woman," "cackling hen" or "no good end" are found in the NIV.

What was the number of Catholics and Protestants in 1500.. And then how many were there in 1600?

Roman Catholic AnswerAs there are no census figures from the sixteenth and seventeenth century, we are going to have to go with a general picture. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, aside from a few Jews and Arabs in Europe, everyone was Catholic for the simple reason that Martin Luther had not yet come on the scene and lost his mind yet. A century later, due to political reasons, most of the Scandanavian countries, along with the Netherlands, England, and northern Germany had become predominately protestant, with France, Spain, Austria, Sourthern Germany, and Italy remaining Roman Catholic.

What are the true roles of a praise leader?

A worship leader is not there to do a Christian Rock concert. A worship leader is not there to show off their voice, guitar skills, or whatever. A worship leader is not there to put on a show.

A worship leader is there to lead the congregation into worshiping the Almighty. Leading people into the very presence of God.

The worship leader should be praising the Lord in song and in prayer, and the praise team should be joining the worship leader. The leader and the team then invite the rest of the congregation to worship with them.

If the leader and team is not there to do that, they are a failure.

What is the differences between Catholic and protestant murals?

There really is no way to answer this question as there is no set "Catholic murals" and, aside from that, in the two thousand years the Church has been around, painting has changed a great deal. On the other side, there really is no "protestant" anything, as, as of 2013 A.D.,

there are over 30,000 different "protestant" sects, all believing and doing something entirely different. So there is no way that you can say what a protestant mural is, except maybe that the painter was not a Catholic.

Can the United Methodist Church raffle?

No. Or, technically a church could do it but it is strongly discouraged by the denomination. The United Methodist Social Principles has a strong statement against gambling of any kind, including raffles.

Is the Catholic church the name historians gavce formation of many protestant churches during the 16th century?

The name "catholic" means universal, so the "catholic church" is all the believers in Christ all over the world. The organized church was more (or less) one church until the Eastern Orthodox church split from the Roman Catholic church, which was (and is) headquartered in Rome. At the time of the Protestant Reformation, the Protestant churches left the rule of the Roman Catholic church and formed their own denominations (such as Lutherans, Baptists, Presbyterians).

Sometimes people use the term "catholic" when they really should use the term Roman Catholic, so things can get confused.

How do Protestants consolidate their fundamentalism with the fact that the Bible was compiled from a Catholic perspective?

Roman Catholic Answer

Because of the words of Jesus and his church which were written in the first century AD. and later gathered into what we now know as The Bible at at a Church Council in the fifth century. In other words, the Bible is a Catholic book, written by Catholics under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved through the centuries by the Catholic Church, and monks doing the actual copying The protestant fundamentalist came along many centuries later and threw out seven books of the Old Testament which had been in there since Our Blessed Lord used them and attempted to claim that the Catholic Church "added books". This is nonsense, the only way that protestants can consolidate their fundamentalism with the Bible, is to ignore where the Bible came from, ignore the Church that gave it authority, and claim something for the Bile that it was never intended to have. The entire thing is ridiculous if you spent half a day seriously researching it.

How is communion taken in the Evangelical church?

I go to an evangelical church we take communion every Sunday. We consider communion to be something we do to remember Jesus' death on the cross. We don't believe the bread somehow actually becomes His body or the wine turns into His blood. It is quite simply a time to remember how Jesus' blood was shed as the 'lamb of God' and how He was also the 'bread of God' - God's provision of spiritual sustenance for all who believe.

Is the Queen of England the head of the Protestant church?

Queen Elizabeth II is head of the Church of England only. Jesus Christ is the head of the Christian church. Protestants have broken off into many many different groups. Some have appointed a leader to be in charge of their denomination and other smaller churches are independent.

I found out my friend attempted suicide Do you go to hell just for attempting suicide?

Not for that reason alone. The Bible says that the only sin which won't be forgiven is if you call God evil, and that all others can be forgiven.

As long as they ask God for forgivness and truly feel sorry, it will be forgiven.

Hope thsi helps answer your q! :)

Roman Catholic AnswerAny sin, including attempting suicide can be forgiven if the person turns to God, confesses his sin to a priest, has contrition (sincere sorry for offending God) or attrition (fear of going to hell), says his penance, and sincerely attempts to not sin again. The only "unforgivable" sin is to think that you do not need forgiveness, in other words, you are perfectly fine yourself, and do not need God at all. We all must realize our inherent sinfulness in order to be forgiven.

The head of the Protestant Church is Jesus.

Do protestants believe in circumsicion?

In a sense, the question is ambiguous. It could be taken to mean do Protestants trust in, rely on circumcision as part of their church doctrine? In that case, the answer is No. If the question is if Protestants practice circumcision, the answer is that most do, although there may be some who don't. It's not a part of official church doctrine in any sense.

Why did some Protestant ministers believe slavery was acceptable?

Slavery had existed in English-speaking America since 1619, but in the eighteenth century many were finding themselves uneasy with the institution. Quakers and some theologians such as Samuel Hopkins led the way in criticising the practice. By the end of the eighteenth century there was an increasing consensus, in both the North and the South, that slavery was in some ways a blot upon the republic.

Southern religious figures claimed not only that was slavery a positive good, but that it was a Christian institution. Meanwhile, northern Protestants faced the difficult question of just how slavery could be considered a sin. Did the Bible ever condemn slavery as sinful in its very nature? If not, were there actions which were sinful but which the Bible did not recognise as sin?

A close reading of the Bible demonstrated that the biblical authors seemed to accept slavery as an institution and nowhere explicitly condemned it. Particularly when opponents of slavery sought to disfellowship slave holders, some Americans questioned the appropriateness of dividing Churches over issues concerning which the Bible had no clear teaching. The Presbyterian theologian Chades Hodge (1797-1878) insisted, "nothing is obligatory upon the conscience but what [the Bible] enjoins; nothing can be sin but what it condemns."

Both in the north and the south, those who did not wish to take a lead in condemning slavery, as well as those who profited from it, could take refuge in the Bible.

What is a Protestant sacred scripture or text?

All protestant churches use the Holy Bible as their sacred texts in the same way as the Roiman Catholic Church. The only minor difference is that in the Roman Bible some books are included that are not regarded as worthy of being called 'scripture' in the Protestant Churches. In 'protestant' bibles these books (like the Maccabees, Tobit, baruch etc) are often included in a separate section.
