Radical mass movements can have an adverse effect upon the way of life in a nation where the radical mass movement thrives. Two major effects of such a movement are that it subordinates, or perhaps said, pushes aside energies that promote the movement to the detriment of creative work in the arts, science, and other aspects of a normal societies activities. Secondly, any so-called creative works are now geared to the ideology of the mass movement and excludes, as often subversive creativity that does not push forward the narrative of the mass movement.As one example, art in the Soviet Union under Stalin, very often displayed paintings and posters of workers in solidarity with Stalin's ideas about his brand of communism. Factory art, rarely popular in most other societies, was in fact propaganda art to strengthen Stalin's regime.

A Mitchell Palmer -- Woodrow Wilson's head of the Justice Department as the Attorney General of the United States -- blamed anarchists, Bolshevik's, and communists for being behind a seemingly widespread series of riots, terrorist bombings, labor unrest, and various other anti government & un American acts in the United States during the 1910s. In response he committed a series of un American acts of his own by orchestrating the so called Red scare of the late 1910s. The Palmer raids of 1919, coordinated by a young J. Edgar Hoover, culminated in the rounding up and deportation up thousands of suspected anarchists (including Emma Goldman).

Some can and do protest. In others, people are very poor and it is hard to organise a protest. Some are not well educated. Some find it hard to get together so it is difficult to mount a big protest. They might not be able to travel to the bigger cities to make their protests. They may not even realise the value of protesting. Some countries do not allow freedom to protest so it is more difficult and even dangerous for people to protest in those countries. So there are lots of reasons that some third world countries do not protest.

The causes of the Detroit race riots and the Los Angeles Zoot Suit Riots were similar because both dealt with racial violence the Detroit Race Riots with blacks and whites and the LA Zoot Suit Riots with Mexican Americans and American off-duty sailors.

Crispus Attucks, a runaway slave, related to the protest over taxes because he led a march of a protest during the townshend act. Crispus was against this act.

Essentially, it is a protest against the lack of corporate responsibility and burden of corporate power in the United States. The protesters do not approve of the ways modern, large corporations act and affect society.

They packaged complex securities with subprime mortgages and backed them up with credit default swops to the tune of 65 trillion dollars. This is the main reason why the financial markets had a near-meltdown in 2008 and the economy has been trying to recover ever since. Also, since that time the top 1% holds close to 70% of the US wealth.

Internationally, the issues are a discontent with capitalism; according to the movement, bankers do not produce any products but only misuse the system and manipulate it to create money.

In the United States specifically, there are numerous causes, like the lack of universal healthcare, the high unemployment rates and the massive differences between the rich and the poor (hence the name The Other 99%).
