Rainforests

Rainforest is a much moister, damper environment. The tree canopy is much thicker, and the plants tend to have thicker leaves. Vines curl upwards to reach the sunlight, and delicate flowers such as orchids can thrive in this biome. there is little vegetation on the rainforest floor, which is quite damp, because little sunlight reaches that area. Bushland consists of trees with thinner, sparser foliage, with more vegetation on the ground, by way of grasses and shrubs. The environment is quite a bit drier than the rainforest.

forests have an important role of keeping our planet earth alive. they provide us with many facilities like:

d. wood for furniture, firewood, etc

Cathy is right about no rainforest producing half of the world's oxygen, but she is absolutely wrong about plants not providing a significant amount of oxygen. The truth is that 98% of the world's atmospheric oxygen comes from plant life. Half of that 98% comes from phytoplankton in the oceans. The other half comes from plant-life on the surface. So, no individual rain forest can account for anywhere near half of the oxygen. In fact, it is now believed that rain forests are oxygen neutral meaning they use as much as they produce (after all, there are innumerable species and animals in the rain forest).

I don't believe that any rainforest produces anywhere near that amount of oxygen. I am terrible with names, but I had the opportunity to ask a very highly acclaimed and reputable scientist about oxygen-making plants, leaves, etc. His response got my attention. He said that plants do not provide a significant amount of oxygen, and rainforests do not provide a significant amount of oxygen. He said it is a myth that they produce anywhere near a significant amount of oxygen. Probably perpetuated by someone who is trying to save a rainforest, and they are trying to think up reasons why we should think they are valuable and worth saving.

I happen to be a person who loves forests of all kinds, and who wants to see forests instead of shopping malls! However, I love the truth. Very likely the truth about the rainforests is that their greatest value is to provide habitat for marvelous animals and plants. I also believe that people have not fully explored the possibilities inside a rainforest. There are probably new species and varieties of plants, animals, birds, insects, etc. that may potentially be valuable to us.

I believe that a rainforest has a great deal of value to us as the rainforest it is. I don't believe it has much value as a source of oxygen for human beings. But there are so many other great values contained inside the rainforest that I see no reason to try to make up things about it!

The three toed sloth eats buds twigs and leaves from a few forest trees which are mainly cecropia and lives solely in its branches only coming down to the ground to defacate as they cannot walk properly instead they loll along dragging themselves awkwardly across the forest floor because they spend all of their time in the branches of the trees eating.Sloths are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and they are so so cute.

Sheep survive in the world like all animals they adapt to their surroundings. Sheep can eat and drink off the land and don't need human interaction.

Difficult to answer without getting specific, but a general answer might be:

Equatorial rainforests are located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn (±23.5 deg lat) in continental areas that receive considerable rainfall. That is usually on the side of the incoming prevailing winds.

The Amazon rainforest has over 700 different species of trees and over 1400 species of plants. Just to name a few flora: there are more than 2700 species of bromeliads, orchids, water lily, 40 different species of Heliconia, Kapok tree - biggest tree in the Amazon rainforest - grows 200 feet tall.

scientists estimate that one fifth of the world's oxygen is given off by the trees in the rain forest. Destruction of the rain forest will decrease the amount of oxygen in the air throughout the world. Since oxygen is needed to form moisture, a decrease in oxygen will cause the world's climate to become drier.

• Countries have to provide alternatives for poor farmers who are cutting into the rainforest to make room for food crops.
• Countries have to pass laws outlawing logging. Oh, hang on, most of them have!
• Countries have to strictly enforce their anti-logging laws. Money and cronyism should not provide immunity.
• Education programs must reduce the demand for furniture made from rainforest timbers.
• Recycle old furniture and wood.

No. The only 'wolves' in South America are maned wolves, Chrysocyon brachyurus, which are not actually wolves - they are only distantly related to other canids, hence their being placed in their own genus (true wolves belong to the genus Canis).
