Are there mountains in Reno Nevada?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The simple answer is NO. The Rockies do not encompass any portion of Nevada. The Major Range is the Sierra Nevada's that are more closely linked to the Siskiyous and they in turn are linked to the cascades. The closet area that the Rockies could be linked to is in the eastern most portion of the state through the great basin area but here again they are not linked.

How did Reno Nevada get its name?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

From out at sea Spanish sailors gazed upon the beautiful mountain ranges of California. They called these mountains Sierra Nevada (snowy range). Sierra Nevada seemed an apt name for the new territory that was being carved out of Utah, but when the deed was done in 1859, the name of this new territory had been shortened to Nevada. As far back as 1857 many names were used to refer to the area that became Nevada, IE: Sierra Nevada Territory; Washoe Territory; Carson Territory; Eastern Slope; Humboldt; Esmeralda; Sierra Plata; Oro Plata and Bullion. But in 1864 the land emerged as "Nevada" a Spanish word meaning snow-covered.

What are some good tourist sites in New Mexico?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You ask to much for even the best of tour guides and you should order several of the excellent New Mexico and Santa Fe guides that are available from the state at no cost. Santa Fe's artist colony is a major draw and the dining and accomodations are a draw in their own right. Here are just a few basics:

  • The Palace of the Governors on the plaza is a good place to start for history.
  • The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi for a taste of architecture and add the Loretto Chapel and its magical staircase.
  • Consider the Bataan Memorial Military Museum if you are a WWII buff or a side trip to Angel Fire if Vietnam is your forte.
  • The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is a start at art and there are at least a hundred private galleries, Folk Art, pottery, carpet, Native American carvings, fetishes, and every weekend a free walk in the park art showing.
  • Consider a culinary holiday including a full day of schooling.
  • Shop 'till you drop. Do at least one meal at the LaFonda, have a lunch at Tomasita's, visit several Indian Pueblo's and Casino's, make a side trip to Taos for green Chile at Ogilvie's, attend the farmer's market, buy a rista, watch the Plaza Low-riders, reward yourself with a piece of jewelry by a noted craftsman like Tommy Singer, buy an RC Gorman print, or a Ted Miller knife or invest in a single piece of local pottery or a Zuni fetish from the Keshi Gallery. Enjoy.

What are some good tourist sites in Denver?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

16th Street Mall is closed to traffic and is a walking mall. It is fun to walk, browse, and eat there, if you are downtown. There are some typical sites here... a zoo, an aquarium, and two amusement parks. Those are always fun to do with the family. There is a railroad museum that is cool. Casa Bonita is just north of Denver but is popular with tourists... they have gift shops and cliff divers inside the restaurant. Downtown is the Brown Palace Hotel. The restaurant there is also popular with tourists (food is better, less entertainment, very much more expense). The convention center usually has interesting stuff going on... car shows, conventions of all sorts. The Denver Mint is cool. The Molly Brown house is interesting (Molly Brown was a survivor of the Titanic). The Denver Center Theatre downtown puts on all sorts of shows, from Broadway hits that are coming through town to original shows. Excellent stuff. Red Rocks ampitheater is a good place to see a concert... open air natural concert setting near Denver.

Is Carson City farther west than San Diego?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, both Reno and Carson City are west of San Diego. I am from both Reno and San Diego. When you live in either city you think they are in the same location on the map because when you drive up and down highway 395 it feels like you are driving straight south or north when in reality you are heading south and east or north and west. (sorry about the long sentence)

What is the street legal law for Illinois?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well i kno for a fact that street glow can not be used while driving but if you are parked it is ok... 5" exhaust is also illegal... Anything that is proven to be over 545 bhp is considered to be illegal but it is really hard to control that so its cool. Basically dont go over board on your car. If you have to ask if its illegal just dont do it.
