What do Romanian children often do on Christmas?

Romanian kids like decorating the Christmas tree. They used to make some of the decorations themselves, but nowadays most are plastic and bought at the supermarket.

During Christmas season, some children gather in groups and sing carols, especially in the rural areas (city folk don't seem to like it anymore, and many refuse to open their doors when they hear carols).

They also enjoy making a lot of noise, using fire-crackers and a special, decorated whip, called "pluguşor." (some start practicing how to make loud noises with that whip since November...)

But I suppose the best part for them is waking up on Christmas morning, to find the presents under the tree.

A Romanian lives in the East European country of Romania. As an example, a Romanian remains a Romanian in other countries. So Romanian speakers in Hungary consider themselves culturally and linguistically Romanian. In other words, Romanians wherever they end up throughout the world don't let go of their distinct heritage of beautiful language, delicious food, gorgeous handicrafts, and unusual dances and songs.
