It really did not have a huge affect on the world. The UN came to help but that was it. Their were the UNAMIR efforts to help. The genocide in Rwanda was left in Rwanda and neither the U.S or Europe clamed to help.

The Tutsi and Hutu had hated each other for generations. There was no rational reason, but that hardly ever matters in African tribal relations.

The Tutsi population was over a million people in the time of the Genocide whose whole purpose was the exterminate all of them which took a long time.

Another factor was that there was little to no help to the tutsi people from the western Superpowers because of the fact that the country has no valuable natural resources.

it only has people and land, neither of which the united states army gives a sh*t about.

So with such a large number of people to kill with nothing in your way, will take a long time.

Unless some European Colonial powers had an interest there, otherwise it was mineral deposit interests or apartheid issues.

The media played a crucial role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Local media fueled the killings, while the international media writer ignored what was happening! The radio alone made more and more Hutus hate Tutsis. They used the radio as a tool for hate. Hutu neighbors had to turn against Tutsi neighbors even if they were friends.

It was and remains far more then two rival groups, the Hutu and the Tutsi trying for control in a vacumn left by Belgian withdrawal. The Tutsi were the first to suffer actual genocide. The Hutu had suffered for years under Tutsi domination and Belgium was slow to respond and may have shown a degree of favoritism to the Tutsi who had been their figurehead leadership in the Colonial era. The Catholic Church must also assume some responsibility for failing to provide leadership. The United Naions is equally to blame for its slow response. The aggressors appeared on both sides of the fray as did the victims. Rwanda was unprepared for the responsibility of genuine self government which they wanted and deserved.

The United States became involved in many situations in Africa during the 1900's. The reason they became involved in Rwanda was because of the genocide and the human crisis that resulted from it.

The Hutu began slaughtering the Tutsis on April 6, 1994. The killed over 800,000 people over a 100 day period.

Intervention may have saved countless thousands of lives. Instead, the world powers just sat and debated while the kills-per-day exceeded those of the Nazi Holocaust.

It is difficult to say which of the 2 events between the Rwandan genocide or the Holocaust was worst. Both events were atrocious and in both events innocent people died and suffered. In the Holocaust a lot more people died than in the Rwandan genocide, 6 million as opposed to about 1 million, but the Rwandan genocide was a lot shorter than the Holocaust. In events like this you can't say which event was worse than the other one, both were equally bad and nothing like either of these events should ever happen again.
