Bottom left side of your engine face (looking from directly above engine bay) your dipstick(metal ring with metal stick attached) is located between some thin tubes and the engine block. pull on ring which will bring out rest of the dipstick. wipe off end of stick with towel. replace dipstick, remove and check levels on stick.

The transmission computer has detected a problem and set a code. It also has enter failsafe mode and locked itself in 4th gear. Have the system checked for codes. That will tell you or the mechanic what the computer thinks is wrong.

That's an usual fault but suspect CIM

remove spring clip of the front 7mm Allen key socket for sliders BUT a special tool is required a rear brake piston wind back tool with saab/vauxhall attachment a easy job with the right tool clockwise rotation

on the SID press customise then select system settings then service info and select reset service info. If the option to reset is not there you will need to change the date to a date beyond the 'Days to service', reset option will then appear. when reset, return date to correct setting. (to change date press and hold the info select button when the date is displayed.

The clutch slave cylinder on all 1979-93 900s and most 99s is easy to access but difficult to remove. Begin by removing the plastic cover over the clutch assembly at the front of the car (rear of the engine).

1) Compress the clutch pressure plate by stepping on the clutch pedal and holding it in place. If the clutch hydraulic system is leaking, you will need a Saab special tool to compress the pressure plate.

2) Install the pressure plate ring special tool, or use a similar large gauge wire to keep the pressure plate compressed for disassembly.

3) Remove the shaft that goes from the primary gears to the center of the flywheel. This is done at the front of the transmission by removing the round plate, then the threaded plastic spinner. Insert a correct sized bolt (8mm?) into the end of the shaft to aid removal.

4) Remove the bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel, and the three bolts that hold the clutch slave assembly to the transmission.

5) Remove the pressure plate, clutch disk and slave cylinder together.

6) It will be necessary to remove the pressure plate special tool with a hydraulic press, and to install that ring into the new pressure plate for reassembly.

It >might< be a stretched clutch linkage cable, that is causing your clutch to not disengage even with the pedal pushed all the way down. My 95 had this condition, I don't know how many years SAAB used a clutch cable that had no adjustments in it. If this is what it is, the trouble probably came on gradually as the clutch cable stretched with age. Normally with a worn clutch the 'contact point' gets higher and higher on pedal travel, but with a stretched cable it goes the other way and gets lower and lower. Solutions: Easiest temp (6 months maybe) fix: Cut a fender washer so there is a slot from it's outer edge to the center hole. Bend the washer in a semicircle...you should then be able to slip it over the clutch cable, between the clutch arm out of the transmission and the 'ball' at the end of the cable. Do it right and you will just have shortened the effective cable length by the thickness of the washer. I did this and got 6 months more life out of the cable before it finally streched more and snapped. If a dealer replaces the cable there is now an engineering bulletin out to put in TWO washers when installing the replacement cable, giving you that much more time for wear and tear before this happens again. OR, do some internet searches, I think someone makes an aftermarket cable for it that has adjustment capability. A year or two later SAAB solved this problem on subsequent models by using a hydraulic rather than mechanical cable linkage. If my guess is right, this has NOTHING to do with how your shift linkage is adjusted at all! Good luck, Paul

On a 1999 9-3 you pull fuse 15 in the panel on the drivers side of the dash. This will turn off the headlights and the gauge lights unless you manually turn the light switch to the on position.
