I have a very similar problem (except I'm 36 and nowhere near menopause.) But I've noticed a severe itching, mostly on my feet, at night about a week or so before my period. I have researched extensively, and found something called "autoimmune progesterone dermatitis". I asked my primary care doctor about it, and he says he's never heard of it. I got a GYN referral, and spoke to the head of the GYN department at the most prestigious hospital in my city, and he says he's never heard of it. I am really, really discouraged because this keeps me awake for hours at night!

My conclusion after the internet research was that the best treatment for this is a hysterectomy. Which is NOT a good option for me.

You could be referring to muscle spasms, which are usually the result of not drinking enough water the night before. Alcohol is a diuretic, so not only are you typically replacing water for alcohol but the alcohol itself is ridding your body of water more quickly than normal.
