well what i have learned in my expierence of life and so on... scientists do expirements more than once to get more accurate data. lets say u do a science experiment. (real easy one) like how fast does a wodden car slide down a hill. If u test it out once that's good but it may not be as accurate then if u had the wooden car go down three times. If it takes the car longer then the last time (at a significant difference in time length)then u can probably realize that u did something different than before. However if the length of speed each time is equivalent or close to the last times u tried out the experiment. Then it would probably be safe to conclude that the car goes this and this miles per hour. U want ur data to be accurate right? hope this answered ur question

What is the first step to using ecology to solve environmental problems?
The first stage of addressing an environmental problem is to determine if it is a problem at all. Often groups get concerned over problems that are natural trends. As an example the number of hares and predators are a cyclic phenomenon - hare numbers increase for several years, predator numbers increase due to the easy access to food, the predators eat up the surplus hares, the predators then die off (starve to death) as the food source is over utilized. A problem could be seen by a person not aware of the cycle who only sees a larger number of starving or dead wolves or coyotes.
Once the problem is identified as real the required stages are to:
- Identify the extent of the problem
- The causes of the problem
- The causes which we can control or remedy
- Identify available corrective action which is available, realistic and cost effective
As an example:
The Tasmanian Devils of Tasmania are endangered; their numbers are seriously depleted in all locations. The cause is a contagious form of cancer transmitted from their mouths during their frequent fights.
This satisfies our first three criteria - there is a problem, We know its extent and cause.
Now the problems are how to combat it (cancer vaccine, change their disposition, isolate healthy individuals to repopulate areas after all the sick individuals die off. etc).

A very well known modern scientist is Stephen Hawking a physicist who has contributed more to science then can be mentioned. James Watson a biologist co-discovered the DNA's structure.
Francesco Redi disproved the theory of spontaneous generation in larger organisms during the 1600s with this experiment. By using flasks containing meat -- one open and one sealed -- Redi discovered that maggots only appeared on the uncovered meat that could be accessed by flies. The maggots were hatching from eggs laid on the meat, not from the meat itself. Pasteur continued the experimentation regarding spontaneous generation in the 1800s with the growth of bacteria on soup.
