What are the criteria for Social Security disability in Indiana?

Although Social Security disability determinations are administered by the individual states, all 50 states follow the same set of guidelines because Social Security is a federal program.

First, the person must meet Social Security insurance requirements by having earned enough work credits, and having been employed recently enough, to qualify for coverage. Under certain circumstances, a claimant with an insufficient work record may qualify for benefits under a parent's or spouse's earnings record.

Second, a disability must be considered severe enough to prevent employment for at least 12 months, or to result in death. This must be documented in the medical records.

The Social Security Blue Book lists severity criteria for specific diseases or disorders, as well as the supporting evidence needed to demonstrate impairment. You can access a copy of the current Blue Book (the same one examiners use) via Related Links, below.

On the federal tax schedule does the amount due include the Social security and medicare contributions?

No. The schedules are for the Federal income tax only.

(To start - FICA contributions are considered more an insurance and retirement payment, not a tax -(it is earmarked and not available as part of ordinary US Treasury funds, and the "income" that it is based off of is defined entirely different than that for Income Tax. Many people have very large incomes but owe no SS, or can have no taxable income - after losses and deductions, and still owe and have substantial FICA contribution income).

Who is HSBC bank Nevada NA I received a letter from them saying to protect my privacy call 800 792 1583 a recording asked for my social security number?

I received an "opt out" letter regarding sharing of non-public personal information or opting out of credit information that is shared with affiliates. They wanted me to give them the credit card account number, N,A,Tel#. I don't think so! I have never heard of HSBC Bank Nevada. Hope this helps. I too, received this letter. I called and gave my partial SS# before deciding against it, and hung up. Is this a fraud/scam?

From other Contributors:

* I would definitely consider this a scam. NEVER GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE. A legitimate company that you have financial dealings with already has your information. * On December 3rd, I received a flyer from HSBC Bank Nevada announcing a change in the default rate for my card. It doesn't identify what card, and I don't recognize HSBC Bank Nevada. The address on the mail permit is Wheeling, IL and the return address is Wod Dale IL, but they want me to respond to an address in Delaware with my name, address and account number if I choose to not accept the changes they outline. Sounds quite "phishy" to me. Is this a hoax?

: I received the same letter! I found a site that said when contacted by HSBC for no reason, to check with Equifax, Experian and Transunion to see if my identity had been stolen. Also found several sites that said the HSBC is known for selling data collected from clients, and scamming people who have their credit cards. HSBC Nevada is the new name for a predatory lender called Household International. (This is a different predatory lender from Household Finance, who now belongs to Beneficial.) They are big into store credit cards, so if you have one of those you may be dealing with HSBC Nevada, or HSBC NV as they're also known. It's a real company, but not one you really want to deal with.

How do you make a social security number valid?

You don't. The number you're assigned by the Social Security Administration will already be valid. A number you get any other way is invalid and can't be made valid. (Even if the number itself is "valid" in the sense "it's an actual social security number", it's not valid for you unless it's your social security number.)

How do you apply for social security number if passport lost?

You must appear in person at the I.R.S. Building that is at wherever the jurisdiction you find yourself dictates such matters. Before you waste your time, be sure to gather WHATEVER you can that identifies you....(scrap-books, letters, yearbooks, etc. They will require however, that you do have in your possession a certified copy of your Birth Certificate; complete with seal of authenticity. If you don't have that, you may as well get on the ball and start calling, sending written requests, accessing the website etc. of the Hospital where you were born. This may be frustrating especially with so many hospitals closed in recent years. In that case you have to pester them until you find who, what, and where those files were surrendered or stored...and so forth.

Consider whether any jurisdiction in where you spent your youth, or even been arrested and booked and in either case for different causes a number of circumstances which may have your fingerprints on file. Also banks that may have your finger print on file. The more proof you bring, the better.

What forms or papers do you need to apply for social security?

Can a co-signers Social Security entitlements be garnished and made to pay a car in full after repossession?

ssa-custhelp Section 207 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 407) protects Social Security benefits from assignment, levy, or garnishment. However, the law provides five exceptions: **child support and tax debt and other govt. debts.** The Social Security Administration's responsibility for protecting benefits against legal process and assignment usually ends when the beneficiary is paid. However, once paid, benefits continue to be protected under section 207 of the Act only as long as they are identifiable as Social Security benefits. This applies to money in a bank account where the only payments into the account are from direct deposit of Social Security benefits.

NOTE: Supplemental Security Income payments cannot be levied or garnished.
