How does capital gains income affect social security?

That depends, if you're below the maximum amount of income that you can earn for that tax year, then it won't trigger a claw back of some of your social security. On the other hand, if your income is over the maximum amount you're allowed to earn, then the government will take the appropriate deduction from your social security.

Is inadequate personality considered a disability by the Veterans Administration?

When I worked for the veterans administration as a claims examiner for 13 years I saw a handful of cases in which a veteran was dysfunctional enough that a diagnosis of inadequate personality was used as a basis for granting disability. I believe that the diagnosis and the rating decision must have been made, in part at least, to assure that the veteran involved was able to get care in a veterans hospital facility, such as the right to see the psychological staff for assistance, meds, etc. I never saw a case in which the veteran was granted total and permanent disability and the right to 100?% compensation for a diagnosis of inadequate personality, but I do remember seeing a number of cases in which the rate of disability compensation was 0% service connected, and perhaps some as high as 20%. So the answer is, yes, sometimes that diagnosis can lead to a payment from the veterans administration. All I can believe is that the diagnosis is not so important as the disabilities that evolve from it, and if they are severe enough, the veteran could get payments. So its worth pursuing a claim if you feel you are entitled to disability payments either service-connected, or non service-connected which are the lesser payments.

What happens to your state pension if you work after retirement age?

It's impossible to answer this question without knowing more about the situation. You should contact the organization paying your pension, and get complete information from them, preferably in writing. In some cases, people collecting a pension can only earn a certain amount per year, before they start losing benefits. (This is also true of Social Security.) In other cases, as with most police and military pensions, the retiree is entitled to that income, even if he or she is working fulltime.

Can a surviving wife stop paying her husband's credit debt and home equity loan while protecting the house car and social security from creditors?

All SS payments, whether to the beneficiary or survivors are exempt from any attachement by creditors. A secured loan, however is entirely different. The lender can foreclose on property if it is defaulted on. The death of the borrower (or one of the borrowers) is irrelevant. There could be insurance, that covers the loan amount in case of death or disability. If the deceased is the sole card holder then it is unlikely that the CCC can collect from any survivors. Unless the state of residence is a community property state, then the debt is considered joint, even if only one spouse signed the contract. Property that is exempt is varied in type and amount from state to state. So are probate laws governing the estate and payments of the deceased. There are other issues that would be to lengthy to address in a forum. Obtaining legal counsel would be beneficial.

Can a landlord damage your credit if they never took a security deposit or Social Security Number from you?

No, they have to have your SS# to be able to do anything with your credit. Also a security deposit doesn't mean anything when it comes to renting if you do not pay your rent or get evicted due to another cause it has nothing to do with your credit.
