Ooh, good question. While I doubt anybody could say precisely who named it, the etymology of the word cuttlefish could be interesting. My guess would be that the animal gets its name from the cuttlebone rather than the other way round - cuttlebones can be carved to make molds for metal castings. I reckon they were used by cutlers - people who made knives and forks, cutlery - to produce molds which the cutlery was then cast inside.

To be honest there is a very simple answer. They frequent the same places and so they are bound to bump into each other. Most squid I have encountered will go towards a full moon to find mates. I am not sure if the giant squid will do that, but I can say one thing for sure...

Just because WE have trouble finding them, doesn't mean they aren't all over the place. We only go down for a little while in one spot and hope to get lucky.

They are not as large as the colossal squid which is 46 feet but they are 43 feet (average). The females are larger and they have eyes the size of volley balls. A very large one was seen that was 48 feet. The colossal squid is nearly the same size long as a blue whale. The very large size is due to deep sea gigantism and that produces other very large animals as well.

Depends on what kind of squid you are talking about. If you are talking about giant squid, then they eat large fish, some crustaceans, and even young whales and sharks. Other squid of a smaller size will eat small fish, small crustaceans (including shrimp), and other squid. That is definitely true for a dead (or drunk) octopus, but for a regular everyday one, I find that they are more of a fire hazard because they are always panicking when you yell "Fire," and waving around their multiple arms and blocking the fire exits.

Not really, if it is still wet then yes, but otherwise just watch it at the beginning when you light it, to be safe. But it mustn't be that dangerous if it was painted in the first place. I would happily light it.
