What is gap year tourism?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Gap year tourism is when you take a year off after school to travel. Some people do this instead of going to college right away, and they travel all over and see what they want to see. It is rather expensive, but there are different companies that offer trips throughout different countries.

==

Taking a gap year to travel and tour the world is becoming increasingly more common among young people. They usually take a year off after finishing high school before they start college to either work, travel, or deal with some special circumstances. It can be a great time to take a bit of a break, see the world, and gain some valuable experience.

There are some great programs that include a total gap year travel package and experience, but if you're brave, you can go solo or with a friend and have a great time seeing different places and things.

Is Paris bigger than London in area?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Anyone who says London is bigger is a fool!

You need to compare what is comparable... You can hardly say everything within the M25 is the city centre of London otherwise you would be including towns and townships which are considered suburbs.

Paris is the LA of Europe 2 million people within its 20 districts (city centre) then a huge agglomeration of 12million people over a massive urban area of over a 1000 sq miles. It has 3 different orbital motorways not just one (M25). One round the city itself (Boulevard Peripherique) the A86 which runs round the eastern suburbs and the A104 which is 50 miles from the centre going around all of Greater Paris and its suburbs.

London is big if you count Greater London but the city which lets face it is Tower Bridge to Knightsbridge and Chelsea is walkable and about 10 square miles! Paris City centre (the 20 arrondissements) are 20 sq miles so in area and population Paris is the winner easily. There are just under a million people in the centre of London and if you count greater London just under 10million. I am half French and have had this debate many times! Paris is the largest city in Europe.

How can you as an individual help your economy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Paying attention to local businesses and helping them by being loyal customers can help the economy. Just as one would help a friend or neighbor, pitching in and doing things for them if they were sick; using one's money where it counts, locally, can make a difference in the quality of one's own life.

In addition to spending when/where you can afford to spend, referring favorite businesses and business contacts to friends and neighbors can help those businesses and help stabilize your local, individual economy.

Now is the time to explore and be open to new things, to act unafraid. One has to get gas for one's car, go to multiple local stations, see how they are the same/differ. Do the same for grocery stores, restaurants and other kinds of stores where you have to spend your money anyway. Spread your money and good cheer, fear is contagious but so is pleasant, calm comfort.

Maybe start shopping or eating clubs, go out to dinner with friends instead of alone or meet neighbors at local haunts. Gathering together as people are meant to do can be easier in times of crisis and is actually that much more important. Join nonprofit clubs that are already going and give your time to helping your community. Time is money. Acting as if is just as important as actually having.

And listen! To neighbors, store clerks, people working or out of work. Talk about what is important to you and listen to what is important to others in your community and see how problems can be working on together.

What is the bering strait land theory?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Bering Strait theory is the theory on how the first humans made it into the Americas. According to that theory, Native Americans descended from an Asian population who crossed the Bering Strait, the area between modern day Asian Russia and Alaska, by a land bridge of ice. These Asians then spread across the rest of the Americas.

The Bering Strait theory is viewed as offensive to many Natives, as many of their religions frequently state that they have always been in the Americas. It conflicts with their religious beliefs in the same way the theory of evolution conflicts with Abrahamic religions. In addition, they fear that people would see them as non-Natives because of this. However, judging by that logic, Europeans would not be native to Europe, when they are.

What was the outcome of the Hill Lawsuit against the People to People Student Ambassador Program?

Wrongful Death Lawsuit for Tyler R. Hill Against Ambassadors Group, docleaf, et al., Officially Settled

MOUND, Minn., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Allen and Sheryl Hill of Mound, Minn., today announced the official settlement of their civil action for wrongful death of their 16-year-old son, Tyler Hill; invasion of privacy; and fraud against Ambassadors Group Inc., People to People International, docleaf Ltd., Sue Stahr, Pat Veum-Smith, Angela Hanson, Josh Aberle et al. The Hills signed the release on July 30. The terms of the settlement are confidential. Tyler died on a People to People Student Ambassador Trip to Japan on June 29, 2007. Since Tyler's death, the Hill's have been on a passionate mission to protect other traveling youth and have sought accountability, justice, restitution and reform.

REFORM: Traveling Youth's Standards of Safety Legislation

The Hill's mission for the safety of kids participating in travel programs is far from over. They seek reform through a bi-partisan federal law and the Traveling Youth's Standards of Safety (TY's SOS legislation), and have engaged Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MN). The pursued legislation is to ensure safety measures, sanctions and penalties are in place to protect traveling youth. No safety standards, sanctions or penalties exist to protect children's health and safety rights while entrusted to third parties, especially during travel programs. Children have been denied health care, died, hurt, abandoned, raped and suffered severe illnesses, while traveling with some student travel programs. There is currently no oversight committee watch dogging the student travel industry.

Danielle Grijalva, director for the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students, applauds the Hill's advocacy for safety and sanctions during travel abroad programs. She said, "I receive numerous complaints about other travel agencies from children and their parents about supervisors being intoxicated, molestations, children being denied health care when they are sick, unsanitary living quarters and 'unaccounted for' children. Parents need to inform themselves of the safety record of agencies and supervisors they are entrusting their kids to." Grijalva recommends parents contact foreign police authorities to report abuse and then contact local, state and federal agencies to report child endangerment. Until laws are passed to impose sanctions and potential imprisonment, Grijalva believes that egregious stories like Tyler's will remain all too common.

About Tyler Hill

Tyler Hill was born on June 6, 1991, on the anniversary of D-Day, in Edina, Minn. A natural athlete and honor roll student, Tyler was a first year MVP for rugby, a tight end in football, a winger in hockey and an advanced scuba diver. He was a junior officer of the Mound Westonka High School DECA club, and he discovered and reported a bomb threat to school authorities and was recognized for his actions.
