This same question was answered last week. The only answer that counts is the answer from the person offering to do the job. You don't repair head gaskets, you replace them. My local Subaru dealer (Lansing, MI) charges $1300 for this job. Hal's (Sparta, NC) charges about half that. The quick easy method for determining a bad alternator or at least to find out if it is charging, while the car IS running remove the negative battery cable from the battery, if the car stalls then you need to have the alternator service inspected.

From the schematic in my service manual, it appears to be in the fuel tank near the fuel pump. You asked a simple question so I'll give a simple answer. It is a sensor that senses fuel temperature. Please ask a follow-up question so we can answer what you would really like to know.

Subaru does not use a separate overdrive unit, if that is what you are asking. For many years, overdrive is simply another gear in the transmission.

It is located on the engine block drivers side.

If I did it would be because there is a flaw in the gasket that seals the trunk lid. To find it take a flashlight and have an assistant with keys close you in the trunk. Have your assistant run water from a hose over the trunk lid while you look at the seal from inside. You will find your leak.

I recently purchased two replacement elemints for my 1997 suburban and now the beams are not why the old beams were shining. what did i do wrong, maybe is's a simple as aligning the lights. please help Thank you Ed

I had this problem about a year ago. Turned out to be all the bulbs were burnt out on mine. There's 3 (or 4) miniture bulbs that are accessed by removing the heater control.

The following is for the 3.0L H6: Remove the "V" Belt. Drain the Radiator so that the coolant level is below the Upper Radiator Hose. Remove the Clamps, remove the Hose from the Radiator & rotate the Hose counterclockwise out of the way. Empty the Pump Reservoir. Remove the Pump Hose Fittings & disconnect the Electrical Plug. Remove the three 14 mm bolts holding the Pump Bracket & the 12 mm bolt holding the Generator. Remove Assembly & replace Pump. Installation is reverse. Refill the Pump Reservoir & the Radiator with the proper fluids & quantities.....

We have a 2000 Outback, with 170k on it and in need of a tune up we get about 21-24 mpg, mostly highway miles. Fueleconomy.gov i believe lists it at 21city and 27 highway for mileage.

It helps to have a small light to look down the tube to see what's going on. Then, spray it with silicone spray. Then push/pull a long 1/8" or 3/16" screwdriver all around between the spark plug ceramic and the broken piece. Then do the same between the piece and the tube wall. Then work the screwdriver at an angle, trying to rotate the broken piece under pressure, as you slowly pull the screwdriver out. Repeat. Check with the light. When it's worked out a little, or if you get bored, take a long handle long nose pliers, open it as much as possible on the edge of the rubber piece, push in and grip...then pull. Repeat and check with light until you get it out. I had 3 out of 4 boots break on a 2002 Legacy, and this is how I got them out.

Cooling system thermostat is at the bottom of the engine. Look for the lower radiator hose and trace it back to where it attaches to the engine block. Bingo!

yes it does. It is a little hard to take out. If you have had this car for sometime and the cabin filter has not been changed it is probably very clogged up. If you are reasonably handy I would recommend going to your local Subaru parts dealer and buying a new filter. It comes with instructions on how to replace it

the oxygen sensor is located between the fist and second muffler. you will need to disconnect the sensor and it will then unscrew out of the exhaust pipe. I just did this on my H6 and I also needed to replace the air mix sensors on each side of the motor. they look just like oxy sensors and my need to be replaced as well. they are located on either side of the headers. the best way to get at them is from under the hood. you will also have to disconnect these sensors from the top and then unscrew them from the headers on each side.
