How does a human survive in the desert?

To survive in the desert, a person basically needs water, food, and protection from the heating and evaporation caused by the sun.

Some supplies might include

  • Water (a considerable amount for optimal health and cooling)
  • Food (to supply energy for travel and thermoregulation)
  • Lightweight but protective clothing (to avoid sunburn and hyperthermia)
  • Sunblock (to protect exposed skin)
  • Sunglasses (to protect eyes from glare)
  • Blanket or shelter for cold nights
  • Maps or guides to locations in the desert, or to emergency aid
  • Effective communication devices where possible

Without water, you will dehydrate very quickly. Many people of the desert community also wear headdresses to cover their faces and skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun, and to help keep them hydrated and cool.

How is life measured?

By the time that the life occured. If you look at a grave stone it will say something like "1896-1972" which is the measurement of the time, 76 years, that the person was alive. Also, when scientists do radio-carbon dating, they measure the radioactive quality of the carbon which they call its half-life. So they measure its life by the time it takes for it to decay and based on how much it decayed, they can tell how old it is. This usually helps them answer the question of when something was alive many, many, years ago.

What are some survival tips?

fishing i very good for most of the nutrition you need. a short spear or a net made from bark rope will do you good. remember that if you go against and disrupt the current of the water fish will swim away. it is better to stay still and let the fish come to you before you strike them. and that's all i could thinkof at the moment

Answer

Always be prepared. If you travel always carry at least a small survival kit, at least a warm coat, and if possible at least a small first aid kit. Also carry snacks in your car or boat, and extra water. Your survival kit should include something to start a fire with. Carry a compass, and map, if possible, and know how to use them. A coil of fishing line and a few fish hooks are good. A flash light or two are good with extra batteries. You need some kind of knife, perhaps on a multitool, an excellent item to have in a survival situation. It's also good to carry a signaling device, a signal mirror or a survival whistle. Carry a cell phone in case you find yourself stranded in an area where you have a signal. If you intend to be away from home for a while always tell a responsible person where you are going and when you should be expected back. It might be a good idea to carry at least a basic survival manual.

If you are stranded in your car stay there and make that your survival base camp, only deciding to travel and try to rescue yourself if it is clear no one will be looking for you anytime soon. If you have decided to try to rescue yourself and you find yourself in the wilderness, three fires are seen as a call for rescue.

If you have to take water from the environment, such as from a pond, it should be strained, and boiled for a maximum of ten minutes, a minimum of one minute.

Be up on plants in the area where you plan to go, so you'll know what you can safely consume.

How do you make a fire?

There are hundreds of ways to start a fire. Butane lighters, Swedish Firesteel, and BlastMatch are very popular. How can humans survive in cold water?

Humans can survive in cold water for a while, depending on the temperature. If you are in just-above-freezing waters, you may survive 15 minutes to 30 minutes if your lucky. It depends on the clothes you are wearng also.

Th best way to survive in cold water is to curl up into an egg position and just float, lifting your head occasinally for air. You will need to conserve all the energy you have. Whatever you do, DON'T DRINK THE WATER (if its salt water. it will further dehydrate you), and DON't FALL ASLEEP. You can and probably will drown if you doze off, and the cold water may not help with waking you up in your exhausted state.
Initially your body moves as much blood out to the arms and legs to try to warm them up. At a certain point the opposite happens and your body tries to keep the brain and organs in your torso warmest. Eventually, your body goes into shock because it is unable to continue to run because many of the chemical reactions in the body slow down too much to continue running. You then become unconscious. Then you freeze. Then you wake up and Pauly Shore is bothering you.

Really, the best way to survive in cold water is protective gear like a dry suit or getting out of the cold water quickly.

Why do you need leaves to survive in the wilderness?

How many people are most likely not to panic in a life or death situation?

well that is difficult to say, as everybody has different reactions to life or death situations. take a hostage situation for example, some hostages will react by staying quit and still, as if in shock. some will go into states of hysteria, and have fits, some will panic, some will oddly become very talkative. and since everyone has different reactions (this relates to most life or death situations) you cant guarantee you will get panic reaction people in the hostage group, the captor may end up with a group of talkers, or they might all react by staying quite and still.

so by this information i would estimate that maybe a quarter to a half of people in a life or death situation, e.g. a tsunami, or hurricane will slip into panic.

What are Three methods to purify water?

I know one way to purify water is by filtering it with some sort of aquifer-like material.

Three common methods of purifying water are filtration, chlorination and ultraviolet light disinfection. There is also reverse osmosis, distilling and Ionization.

The methods used depend on how dirty the incoming water is, and how pure you want the water to be. See NSF and EPA standards for specific information.
