Why does my 1987 suzuki samurai back up lights not work?

It is most likely the switch on the transmission. There are two of them, one is for the back up lights. They both screw into the left side of trans toward the top. The wires from both switches come up to the firewall and plug into the wiring harness connectors. Once the switch is out there is a nylon pin on the bottom that contacts the shifter rail, it wears and will not go in far enough to make up the circuit

Do you know what the gear ratio's 1 through 5 and reverse are for a 1996 Geo Metro 1L 3-cyl engine with a 5-speed manual transmission?

GEO METRO TRANSMISSION FINAL DRIVE DATA

THERE ARE 3 METRO FINAL DRIVE RATIOS

4:39 CONVERTIBLE AND MID 95 TO 01 3 CYLINDER

4:10 BASE AND LST 89 TO 94 AND POSSIBLY MID 95

3:79 XFI AND MID 95 TO 01 4 CYLINDER

ADDING THE SUZUKI CLONES AND REPEATING FROM A DIFERENT SOURCE JIM MULLETT AT ECOMOD

4:39 CONVERTIBLE AND MID YEAR 95 UP 3 CYLINDER METRO

4:10 MID YEAR 95 AND DOWN METRO

3:95 MID YEAR 95 UP SOHC SWIFT

3:85 89 TO 94 XFI METRO

3.79 98 TO 01 4 CYLINDER METRO

3:52 SWIFT SOHC 4 CYLINDER TO MID 95

THE TRANSMISSION DRIVE FOR ALL IS .757 WHAT IS CHANGING IS THE RING AND PINION GEARS

SO IF YOU MULTIPLY .757 BY THE FINAL DRIVE YOU GET CRANK ROTATIONS PER 1 WEEL REV

IE 4.39 x .757 = 3.323 CRANK REVS/ 1 WHEEL ROTATION

First drain coolant, disconnect both radiator hoses, than unbolt radiator and remove, remove engine fan, loosen altenator belt, remove water pump pully, remove main crank pully, unbolt timing belt cover, loosen and remove timing belt, water pump should be in full view now, remove fan and water pump pully studs (to place into new water pump) remove all water pump bolts (be sure to lay them out in order they came out some are longer than others) remove pump from block, (some coolant may come out dont worry its not alot just enough to get yer hands wet) then wipe dry and scrap off old gasket, (be careful block is aluminum it chips easely scrap gently) install new gasket and installation is reverse from removeal instructions :) you have yerself a good day:)

Who makes the best and brightest road legal replacement headlights fro an 1987 suzuki samurai that wont empty the bank?

Sylvania SilverStar ULTRA (c) bulbs are advertised as the 'brightest' road legal headlight replacement bulbs available.

Please note HID systems are much brighter, but retrofitting an HID system is not D.O.T. approved; road legal - (despite any claim to the contrary - no retrofit HID system has been approved by the US D.O.T. to make them 'legal' for on-road use).

1987 samurai coolant hose below intake manifold is pluged but leaking where did this go originally?

It is a small 'L' shaped hose that goes from the side if the water manifold to the bottom of the carburetor intake manifold. I believe it is part of the water supply to the carburetor manifold that heats it.

How do you remove a Suzuki Samurai transmission?

After unbolting everything and trying to lower it away from the bell housing, you find there is not enough clearance at the crossmember. You must grind/cut away metal from under the transmission to allow it to clear the crossmember.

....

Or what I did: remove the crossmember, put it back later. Mine just bolted onto the frame rails.

On a Suzuki samurai transfer case how can you tell if the shifting forks are aligned?

The square cut-outs in the shifting rods are aligned with each other when you look down the transfer case shifting hole when assembled in neutral. If they are not, use a big flat blade to align them before replacing the shifter sheet and installing the shifter arm.

Will a Suzuki Samurai hard top fit a 1995 Geo Tracker?

no, it will not. A Samurai and a Tracker are different body styles. The Suzuki Sidekick is the same body style as the Geo Tracker and those hard tops are interchangeable.

87 Suzuki Samurai starts but will not shut down a new starting switch was put in and it still will not shut motor off had to remove batt cable and pull coil wire to stop motor help. Cheers Josep?

Myself, I do away with all the starter switches since I own six Samurai's and want more. I have a floor switch that is in a lock combo vault that kills the engine, and is in a stainless steel tube under the bucket so no one else can start it less they know the combination. Then I go to a start switch and turning that on and hitting the button starts my jeeps. Turning off the start switch kills the engine while the security switch is between the shifters in the lock combination box. This is not the only security there is a weight switch in the driver seat that you have to weigh as much as I do or it won't start, and two other dead switches you need to know where they are before the jeep will start.

In the mean time, your kill wire is broken under your dash somewhere. Each time you put a new starter on it, and plug it into the wire harness you still have not fixed the kill wire on the other side of the plug.

With an 87 you have round vents the center dead spot all you need to do is put in a key kill switch that leads to your battery, then when you want to turn off the jeep kill it by the turning off the kill switch and leave the key in or take it out. Mounting it, you should use a large washer to cover that blank vent area and then another behind it so that you can screw the kill switch through it securely.

Myself, I just don't like keys! And the fact that having six Samurai jeeps trying to figure out what key goes to what jeep is hard enough, but to have a kill switch located on the dash center area, when four wheeling, and you NEED to kill the jeep its really hard to reach down and turn the key off, just hit the rocker cover over the switch and the jeep is shut off faster and safer then turning the key off. For me, and all my girlfriends that drive the other jeeps its quick to start and shut off.
