How do you kill jumping little mites found in your home that look like black pepper?
A fumigant or try Diatomaceous Earth (DE). Spread it in the carpet and on fabrics like the couch. Vacuum it up after a few days. DE causes tics, fleas, and mites to dehydrate and die. You may need to repeat either method several times a week or two apart because there are very likely eggs that haven't hatched yet.
Why does my swimming pool pressure drop after a few minutes?
If the clarity of your water is hazy/cloudy or green, then that is the nature of a diatomaceous earth filter. They filter down so small that they build up back-pressure quicker than other filters. This should also be reflected when you backwash the filter as you will see dirty water coming out. If your pool water is not cloudy or green you may be adding too much DE when you charge the system. You may have air being introduced into the system. Lubricate the O-Ring under your pump lid with Teflon-based grease and examine the lid itself for hairline cracks. Also check the pump pot (housing) for cracks.
How do you check for leaks in an inground pool?
I had a leak with a new pool and they could not find it.
Finally hired a company called "Leak Locator" and they use equipment like a sonar.
They put a listening instrument in the pool and walked around. they heard the "hissing"sound of the water being sucked out. Within two minutes the person found the two small leaks and sealed them.... Cost me ~ $225.
get someone that can scuba dive to look around for visible tears/cracks. diver will take a dye substance (food coloring for example) and squeeze it near the suspected area. if it gets visibly sucked into the tear/crack, you've located a problem spot.
Before you hire a professional leak locator see if you can deduce where you might be losing water. Abnormally high chlorine levels can cause pipes and plastic weir skimmers to crack and leak. (Does the water level fall below the water outlet ports in the pool?) Abnormally low calcium hardness levels can cause paint to chip by leaching calcium from grout and concrete which may enable water to permeate the pool walls or floor. You can also pressure test the circulation pipes to rule that possibility out (don't overdo it with the pressure). You may have recently noticed a sudden change in your pressure gauges which might indicate a compromised circulation pipe. You may notice signs of settling or cracking in deck areas or building foundations which may indicate settling due to water leaks.
Do you need Drain salt water pool?
Firstly, if you choose to convert your pool to the salt-water (saline) system, you will not need to drain the pool as often as if you were manually chlorinating the pool. Secondly, the mild salinity of the water is probably less than the salinity of the ground-water in your area. I do not know of any common plants, grass etc which would be harmed by the 3000-4500ppm salinity of your pool water.
How do you balance the chemicals in swimming pool water?
when you are adding new water or filling for the first time you should first add your metal out or metal preventer which ever is in your area to prevent staining, second adjust your alkalinity to between 80 120 ppm. AnswerWe had the same problem. I scoured libraries, bookstores and the net. I tried engineers as well. We were looking to build our own indoor pool - there are seemingly no experts that cover the construction, humidity concerns etc... My best reference was the internet and about 400 hours plus. I grew up with a pool, ran a pool - including maintenance - but always outdoors. I looked for postings in the end in which people were asking for help with specific problems ie leaks, mold, shifting etc... so I could troubleshoot. We've built our own indoor pool - saving thousands and thousands of dollars and haven't had any problems. I would do it again in a second. Do you have a specific question? I'd love to help if I can, thanks, Kelli AnswerI built my own pool a few years back in Chandler Arizona. It took a bunch of work and research on my part and a lot of time. I documented my experience on a website:

AnswerBuild your own pool information -- you can get it from many sources, but the swimming pool professional starts with the Bible from ANSI/NSPI, not to mention many hours of TECH Cert classes, mfgr seminars, state and local requirements, advanced schooling, just to name a few.Non-licensed individuals rely on OJT, friends and what engineers know as SWAG.
It's easy to hire a swimming pool professional, engineer, or architect to handle your project. You get what you pay for and piece of mind when you hire a professional who is licensed and insured.
Are your looking for a reference on construction codes for an inground pool. The latest codes are ANSI/NSPI-5 2003 55 Pages of the most current codes adopted by most building officials. This is just one reference for sale. Last I knew you could order it from ANSI for around 200.00. You cant expect your local library to keep current on construction building codes, on the budgets they have a hard time keeping up on the newest poly sci rags.
On a very serious and noteworthy item is dual main drains, you're responsible for building with the most current standards as the contractor. You will also note changes to slope and walls in all swimming pools. Believe me the old liners cheap and for sale show up every day that do not meet code. Every day I find many suppliers unaware of changes that's a real fact. Swim safe hire a licensed insured swimming pool professional.

Will chlorine kill bacteria produced by bird droppings in swimming pool?
Chlorine in pools is designed to take care of a normal amount of bird droppings. If you have a higher level of bird droppings than normal in your pool, you need to raise your chlorine level and backwash your filter every couple of days.
Can you use the chlorine floater when the solar cover is on or when people are in the pool?
No! the floater should never have to be placed under neath the cover. The reason is that the chlorine is not moving around the pool so it will be in one position and eventually eat through the cover. Always keep your cover off when adding chlorine and when chlorine tablets are in a floater.

If the pool water is cloudy can you swim in it?
The water turned green probably due to algae growth. The algae grew due to a lack of santizer (chlorine or other). While the alage was growing, other bacteria or organisms probably also grew, you just can't see them.
Therefore, it generally isn't recommended to swim in a pool while it's green because the water may not be entirely sanitary.
This is true even if the chlorine level is sufficient. You have to give the chlorine enough time to kill everything.
Hope this helps ...

Are saltwater pools safe for people who have high blood pressure?
I am not so sure. I have found that swimming in the sea definitley raises my blood pressure. The older you get, the more you notice this.
Not likely.
If your assumption is that the salt in the pool water is causing high blood pressure (like a high salt diet), then the answer is definitely, no.
The amount of salt in a saltwater treated pool is very low (around 0.5%, which is one-half of one-percent). This concentration of salt is about half as much as a teardrop (1%) and nearly eight times less than sea water (3.75%).
And since the salt in the water can't be absorbed through your skin, you would have to drink a LOT of pool water while you're swimming to intake any significant level of salt.
I'm not a doctor, but I would like to suggest that everyone eat right, exercise, and see a doctor if you think you have high blood pressure.
And keep swimming - it's great exercise.
...
Basically, this is the procedure :
When you do succeed, you may want to think about making an investment in a decent rod and reel. If you know someone who fishes, you may be able to buy a used rig. If you have some money, go to the store and ask the salesman what you should buy. But don't spend a lot of money the first time. $50 should do it for your first equipment. Get a cheap plastic fishing box where you can put your weights, hooks and other gear. You can really learn how to fish if you go out with someone who knows how to fish. The party boats are really great. The crew will help you, and you will surely catch fish on the boat. Buy some books, visit the library, or peruse fishing sites online. Fishing is great fun, and you will really love it when you catch your first fish.
(Unfortunately, the relaxing activity of fishing is often chided as "too dull and boring" because it may require extreme patience.)

How do you get tadpoles out of the pool?
Use a net to remove those that you can. As tadpoles cannot be living to deep in the pool, you will likely not need to go very far down. Drain the pool. Those tadpoles that are left will likely die, or be easier to remove with the net. Depending on where you live, frogs will probably not stay around a dry hole for very long and will move on. From there, you need to only clean the pool and refill it using chlorine to keep out such creatures in the future. Use a cover to keep them from coming back in the colder months, or drain the pool again.
