There is no hard and fast rule for this since all houses, systems, thermostat locations and comfort levels are different. Experiment and go with what makes everybody happy most of the time.

That will depend on the cost (and availability) of gas in your area, when compared to electric costs. It will also depend on the climate. At very cold temperatures (below 40 F) the heat transfer element of an air/Freon heat pump does not deliver heat, and the less efficient electric heat kicks in. In a climate that has long periods of below-freezing temps, a gas furnace may be more economical to operate.

Use the key that came with the locking wheel nuts. If you have lost the key there is one option that doesn't involve taking it to a shop. It's called a lockin wheel nut remover. It has pins inside a socket like device that will fit onto any shape lock. Costs about 20 bucks.

If you have adjustable vents, just close down the vents in the warmer part of the house or where the thermostat is, and the cooler parts will get more heat because it will run longer to make the thermostat reach temp.

To change the thermostat you must follow the lower radiator hose from the radiator to the "Y" shaped housing. To locate this housing stand in front of the vehicle, look directly down and to the left of the engine front.. it is pretty easily seen. it is above the ac/compressor. and in front of the water pump. All you need to do is remove the 2 bolts that hold the housing together, then separate the housing, pull the old thermostat out and clean the matting surfaces of the housing before you install new stat and gasket. After this, put stat in where you took it out... put new gasket on.. connect the two halves and tighten bolts... Job finished.

If the furnace is a single stage heat model. Use R,W and G at the stat and the furnace. This info is in the Installation Manual. R is 24 volt hot,W is heat and G is fan.
