Struts are crucial for suspension. Its noted that these cars have noisy front struts which do not necessarily have to be replaced. However, struts that have seen better days can further damage your tires, wheels, and the rest of your suspension. Get it done.

An experienced mechanic will know this list of potential noise-makers, tell you that it may very well involve a process of elimination, and start at the low/more affordable end - bolts, trunk, sway link bushings. They should also be able to determine if their recommendation is a safety-related issue.

I had similar trouble w/my '95 Avalon. More so when turning, and I assumed I'd messed up installing pads. After that checked out okay, I worried about a rear bearing, mostly because noise was more pronounced through turns. Still, our shop had never done a rear bearing or hub on a Toy that we could recall. And this included MANY high mileage units. There was no play or wobble in the hub/bearing when car was on lift. One afternoon, the thump turned suddenly to a screech. I barely had time to think 'there goes my bearing' when I heard a bang. At the same time, I ran over something with my wheel. As I brought the car to a stop, I realized that the troublesome noise was gone. I got out and found the 'Brake Backing Plate' lying crumpled at the curb - VERY rusty. I looked hard for that noise. but never suspected - or inspected - that plate.

Remove the lower 3 screws with an Allen key wrench (they are threaded posts with an Allen key on top) , be careful they may fall into the engine never to be seen again. The center emblem can be raised slightly from the cover and unscrewed from the post below.

This is one of Toyota's dirty little secrets! The '98 Toyota Avalon was sold with a known defective A/C Amplifier. They issued a Technical Service Bulletin on December 3, 1999 #AC005-99 on this exact defect. = A/C int. INOP = Ambient Temperature light INOP = Fresh/Recirc Light INOP = Mode Indicator Light INOP = Blower INOP Toyota put a footnote on the TSB that "Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint." Which means the service department will not tell you about the problem. You have to be a expert and tell them what the problem is. The biggest scam is that this is an intermittent problem and unless it is not working when you bring it in they will tell you they can't duplicate the concern. Shame, shame, shame on Totota! The fix is a new A/C Amplifier, new Inlet Servo Motor, and new Servo Link. All told, including labor, this will cost you over $1,000 Of course, now that you know what the cause of the problem is... they will deny the fix because the vehicle is out of warranty. Many of us have been down this road! Just remember who screwed you next time you go to buy a car.

I read somewhere that you have to carefully do this (piece is VERY fragile) with a small screw driver and basically push it away from the window. Don't know if it works but what I read.

try using a higher grade of gasolineif that dosent work takeit in to have your timing checked.

Most of the time, yes. Depending on the drivability of course (ie, hindered acceleration) However it is not something to be ignored as it can result in engine damage if not adressed. Advance auto, auto zone, pepboys, they will all scan the cars computer for free, and you can ask for advice on what to do on your specific scenario.

In my 96 Avalon there is a screw in the outside bottom of the ashtray cover that when removed exposes the lighter. I did not discover it until after I had forced the entire ashtray past the stops by pushing on the stops with a screwdriver. I knew that was not correct, but it did work just fine and I was able to reattach my lighter which had come loose and kept blowing fuses.

A Toyota dealer told me yesterday that it isn't simply replacing the bulb. The light is part of a module that costs approximately $750 to replace. From what I've read, it's very labor intensive, a job most do-it-yourselfers would shy away from.

You can open a locked auto if you have a another remote at home. using your cellphone and having the person with the remote to press the remote while you hold the phone near the car will open it It worked for me

the OBDII terminal is located on the driver side in the fuseblock panel. There is another diagnostic terminal located on under the the same dash panel just a little further under the dash it is a round terminal looks like something for Toyota to hook their scanner into.
