Depends on what model it is. Eaton makes both synchromesh and unsynchronized transmissions. The synchromesh transmissions (6 and 7 speed) shift like a regular car or light truck transmission.. push in the clutch, downshift. Unsynchronized transmissions, you take the transmission out of gear, rev the engine up the appropriate RPMs, then push it into the next gear down. This requires you to hit the RPMs right.

A John Deere mower/tractor that are typically used on golf courses can run you about 3-7k, if you are looking for more of a construction type tractor, they are considerably higher, but in the area of 60-80k.

The shift pattern's based on the nine speed, with the addition of a splitter on the side. You'd go about your major shift motions the same as if it were a nine speed, and, when you use the splitter, you simply push the button forward or back (depending on you're shifting up or down), then you let off the accelerator, let the RPMs drop enough for it to catch the gear, then put your foot back into it. If you've missed the gear, you'll know it because your RPMs will spike when you put your foot back into the accelerator.

Anything from a Ford F-550 and higher should be able to, although the F-650 would be a better choice. With a gooseneck fifth wheel trailer, an F350/Silverado 3500/Dodge Ram 3500/etc. could do it just fine, as well.

The correct use of the word Semi is to refer to the trailer, if a trailer has wheels in the front and back it is a 'full' trailer. A trailer pulled by a tractor/truck using a fifth wheel connection on the front and only having wheels in the back is referred to as a 'semi' trailer. The tractor trailer combination weights approx. 34,000 lbs empty, 80,000 lbs loaded. The tractor itself is around 18,000 lbs. Trailers vary from approx. 30-53 feet with the tractor adding around 12 feet for a total of around 65 feet. The standard height is 13' 6" tall.

Define "standard", and for which region.. the 'standard' for US trailers and the 'standard' for trailers in other parts of the world is much different.

Flatbeds and tanker trailers are typically 48 feet in length, whereas most van trailers (including refrigerated vans) are 53 feet in length, although there are also trailers 48, 45, and 28 feet in length. In some western states, there are also restricted use trailers which are 57 feet in length.

The bridge (distance) between the tractor drive axles and trailer axles is a maximum of 41 feet, but in California, it's only 40 feet. In order for trailers which do not have sliding tandems (usually, flatbeds, tankers, etc), the trailer axles may be spread ten feet apart in what is known as a "California spread" in order to comply with California bridge law. This has the added benefit of allowing a total weight of 40,000 lbs. to be placed on those axles, whereas you'd only be allowed 34,000 lbs. with a typical set of tandem axles.
