What subway do you take to the General Post Office at 271 Cadman Plaza East in Brooklyn?

Which subway route to take depends on where you're coming from. You can take the F (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line) to York Street, the A or C (of the A-C-E, the blue line) to High Street, the 2 or 3 (of the 1-2-3, the red line) to Clark Street, the N or R (of the N-R-Q, the yellow line) to Court Street, or the 4 or 5 (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) to Borough Hall.

I have listed the stations in descending order. Each one is further south than the last (i.e., the F to York Street is the furthest north, then the A or C to High Street-Brooklyn Bridge, then the 2 or 3 to Clark Street, etc.)

The F

The F to York Street will drop you off on Jay Street, near the corner of Jay and Sands Streets, on the west side of the Manhattan Bridge.

Walk north on Jay Street to Prospect Street, turn left, and walk west on Prospect Street to Cadman Plaza East, then turn left and walk south on Cadman Plaza East to 271 Cadman Plaza East, between Tillary and Johnson Streets.

The A or C

The A or C to High Street will drop you off at Cadman Plaza East, which forms the eastern border of Brooklyn War Memorial Park. Walk south on Cadman Plaza East to 271.

The 2 or 3

The 2 or 3 to Clark Street will drop you off at the corner of Clark and Henry Streets. Walk two blocks east on Clark Street to Cadman Plaza West. Then walk straight east through the park to Cadman Plaza East. Turn right and walk south on Cadman Plaza East to 271, between Tillary and Johnson Streets.

The N or R

The N or R to Court Street will drop you off at the corner of Clinton and Montague Streets. Walk half a block east on Montague Street to Cadman Plaza West, and then walk north on Cadman Plaza West to Johnson Street. Turn right and walk 1 block east on Johnson Street to Cadman Plaza East. Turn left and walk north to 271 Cadman Plaza East, between Tillary and Johnson Streets.

The 4 or 5

The 4 or 5 to Borough Hall will drop you off on Joralemon Street, between Court and Adams Streets. Walk half a block west to Court Street, turn right, and walk north on Court Street. Court Street becomes Cadman Plaza West just a block or two north of Joralemon Street. Keep walking up Cadman Plaza West to Johnson Street. Turn right and walk 1 block east on Johnson Street to Cadman Plaza East. Turn left and walk north to 271 Cadman Plaza East, between Tillary and Johnson Streets.

How do you find the Electrical section of Railway Questions?

We don't yet have a main category for ''Railway" questions and there is not yet a special section for "Railway electrical" questions either.

Please ask any questions you want and put them under 'Wiring & Electricity' for now.

Other contributors will then be able to see them and, hopefully, will be able to answer them too.

If ever we get some questions on those topics we would certainly see if we can create a new category for them.

So please go ahead and ask!

What subway do you have to take to get from 1st Avenue in Manhattan to Carroll Street in Brooklyn?

First Avenue is a very long avenue. It runs up and down almost the entire East Side of Manhattan. So you will probably need to take a look at a New York City subway map (see the Related Link below) to find out which subway stop is closest to you.

The easiest way to get from the East Side of Manhattan to Carroll Street is to take the 4-5-6 (the dark green line), which runs up and down Lexington Avenue (above 42nd Street) and Park Avenue (below 42nd Street), and then transfer to the Ftrain (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line). The F train stops at Carroll Street.

There are three main ways to transfer from the 4-5-6 to the F train in Manhattan:

1) Take the 4-5-6 to 59th Street-Lexington Avenue, and then walk through the tunnel that connects the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue Station to the 63rd Street-Lexington Avenue Station on the F train. Free transfer is available only if you pay by Metrocard; otherwise, you will have to pay two separate fares. Take the Downtown F to Carroll Street.

2) Take the 4-5-6 to 14th Street-Union Square, and transfer there to the Manhattan-bound L train (the grey line), one stop, from 14th Street-Union Square to 14th Street-6th Avenue. Transfer at 14th Street-6th Avenue to the Downtown Fto Carroll Street.

3) Take the Downtown 6 train to Bleeker Street. On the Downtown 6 only (NOT the Uptown 6) you can transfer from the Bleeker Street Station to the Broadway-Lafayette Station. Get the Downtown F at the Broadway-Lafayette Station.

What is best thing to stain railway sleepers?

I used sikkens HLS Plus: Light Oak after testing several other products (Cuprinol, Ronseal etc) i even used Deck Stain, wood dyes etc on the test areas but chose sikkens as it looked the best and was a low build solvent based penetrating pre-stain which meant it soaked deep into the wood but was translucent enough to still see the grain..... after lots of sanding with a electric hand sander Light Oak dried more like Dark Oak on rough timber but after 2 coats it looks great so beware not to choose a colour too dark like walnut as it will look black..... The downside is the cost £58 for 5ltr, £33 for 2.5ltr £14 for 1ltr..... i needed 6 ltr for the first coat and 4 ltr for the second to stain 50 sleepers... but the finish i got out weighed the cost as you don't want to mess your hard work up at the last hurdle by choosing the wrong stain... whatever brand you choose make sure it is a low build stain as medium to high build smother the grain and have a satin finish which doesn't look right

How do you get to Canal Street from the Times Square subway station?

You can take the Downtown 1 train (of the 1-2-3,the red line) from 42nd Street-Times Square (at 7th Avenue) to Canal Street (at Varick Street). This station is on the West Side of Manhattan.

Or, you can take the Downtown N-R-Q-W (the yellow line) from 42nd Street-Times Square to Canal Street (at Broadway). This stop is further east than the Canal Street Station on the 1train. It will drop you off pretty much exactly in the center of Manhattan.
