How do you know if you have a warped valve?

test the compression in all cylinder bores to rule out the valves or for novice home mech. take the cylinder head in to a machine shop to have a compression test done.

A bent valve will be noisy, each time it is hit by the cam it will bang, the cylinder will not burn fuel and you may even have burning oil.

You will most liklely have a MIL light and a code for emissions like O2 sensor and/or cylinder misfire because of the unburnt fuel making the cat hot, but it could also be an intake valve so you could have backfiring through the intake and rough running for sure.

How do you adapt a trumpet mouthpiece to a cornet?

You would have to make some kind of adapter that would allow the larger trumpet mouthpiece fit into the smaller cornet leadpipe. I don't think anyone does that. It's easier, and more correct, just to buy a cornet mouthpiece since a cornet mouthpiece is designed specifically to fit a cornet.

What happens to the note being played When a trumpeter depresses keys to make the column of air resonating in the trumpet shorter?

If the column of air gets shorter, the tone gets higher, however, on a trumpet, pressing keys adds to the length of the tubing. What determines what note you get is how fast your lips vibrate, and what partials are available with the particular valve combination you are using.
