You are due to get your 20 week scan and you were wondering what you look for in regards to telling the sex of your baby?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I found a great website which helped me to 'read' our baby scans. It just helps make things look less alien! It also may help you to identify your baby's 'bits'. Just cut and paste the link below into your computer search bit and it should come up. Good Luck!! You may not be able to see, sometimes the baby just won't co-operate. I am a midwife and neither the sonographer nor I could make out the babies sexes. they will look for fetal development like the spine-to see if there multiples or just one-maternal changes and of cause you can know the sex and see how the baby is moving inside of you See answer above.

What do the numbers around the face of a watch mean?

The numbers around the face of a watch indicate the hour and minutes of time depending on which hands of the watch are pointing to which numbers. The short hand points to hours and the long hand points to minutes. If the long hand is pointing to 6 and the short hand is pointing to 3 = 3:30 If the short hand is pointing to 6 and the long hand is pointing to 3 = 6:15

Is it true that the miscarriage rate goes down after you see the heartbeat on an ultrasound?

Hi, Not really, no. The miscarriage rate goes down when your 3 months into your pregnancy.

Hey! Actually I saw the baby's heartbeat at 6wks and again at 9wks both on Ultrasounds (I've had so many due to having 3 previous miscarriages and being labeled high-risk). I asked my doctor that exact question and she said that it does take the miscarriage rate down alot, so much so that she doesn't even consider me highrisk anymore. So yes, according to my doctor is does make the miscarriage rate go down (of course it does not go away completely but it does get better). It will go down even more when the placenta successfully takes over the hormone production (which is why most people don't consider it to be "safe" until 3months which is when that final step takes place.) Hope that gives you a little comfort and peace of mind! I know it did for me when I heard that from my doctor!

If you conceived between nov 21-29th and an ultra sound measures your sac to be about 5 weeks on dec 15th how could that be?

Sometimes if the baby is developing quicker then it will appear bigger and the measurements will not be accurate.

Is 14 weeks to early to tell boy or girl you heard they both look the same at 14 weeks?

Yes, it is too early to tell if your little one is a boy or girl. This website shows the genitals at various stages of development. The earliest gender can be determined is week 15 or 16. But a more accurate prediction of gender is between week 18-20. Of course, all of this depends on if your baby cooperates.

Why can I just see the yolk sac in my belly?

Seeing only the yolk sac during an early pregnancy ultrasound can indicate that it is still very early in the gestation period, as the embryo may not yet be fully developed or visible. The yolk sac is essential for providing nutrients to the developing embryo before the placenta takes over. If there's concern about the pregnancy's viability or development, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

In the later stages of pregnancy; its not just voices but certain sounds as well. example; if 'mum-to-be' sits down in the afternoon to relax a bit and watch some tv, the baby can recognise the theme tune to a tv programme (or similar).

Why would someone need the use of a portable ultrasound?

Portable ultrasounds are mostly used by engineers. They are used to see the structural integrity of concrete or steel by sending sound waves into the material and listening to the changes in the waves as they bounce back.

Is it possible not to hear heart beat in the womb?

The earliest a doctor can get a baby's heartbeat on a Doppler inside the womb is 9 weeks... any earlier and it might not be able to be heard! Hope this helps... on the flip side you should take into account your size. If you are smaller it might happen sooner and if you are larger than it may happen a little later.
