Can you get Into Navy OCS with a Bachelors of Fine Arts?

All you need is a 4-year degree - the Navy has so many jobs that correlate to the civilian world that just about everything is covered. Even musicians and artists.

Of course it depends on what you want to do - Commissioned Line Officers (those who rise to command Naval vessels) typically have B.S. degrees in Engineering fields. But consider other fields as well - media, supply, medical, intelligence, etc. Pretty much anything you can get a job doing with your degree in the civilian world has a direct equal in the Navy, which is a big reason it's a great place for careers in either world.

Why is the Marine Corps senior to the Navy?

The Marine Corps is not senior to the Navy, nor is the Navy senior to the Marine Corps. The USMC is a branch of the US Military under the jurisdiction of the Navy. Basically, the Marines conduct landing operations on coastal areas, working WITH the Navy, who mainly stays on the ships and in the air.

If however the question regards parade marching position, then yes, the Marine Corps does take precedence by tradition over the Navy.

Who was first Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy in 1893 after the rate Chief was initiated for the 9 rates in the Navy?

there is no such answer. when the nine rates were given the opportunity to advance first class petty officers to the rank of chief it was not like they all got promoted that day. it was in many many waves across those rates thus making your question impossible to answer.

1903 springfield A1 rifle what is its value with bayonet and scabbard minus Peterson device?

If your rifle has a small 1.5 inch (approx) slot milled in the left side of the receiver you have a 1903 MARK I not an A1(I personally have never heard of a 1903A1 I have however heard of the 1903A3

as far as value it depends on condition i mean if it has obviously seen combat the value could be as low as 50-100 bucks but if it is in near mint to never been fired condition the value could be upwards of several thousands of dollars and that is just for the rifle

the bayonet will also vary in price between $20(i snagged a chromed 1 at an auction for $28) to i would guess a couple hundred

How do you find contact details for a friend dating back to the sixties he was a chief petty officer in vx6 squadron deep freeze name cpo robert allison from Indianna USA?

You can always use the National Archives' eVetRecs system, though records information will be limited if you're not next of kin, and current contact info isn't always available.

Your likely best option though is to search on Veteran's sites; virtually all Navy units have some type of online presence, and VX-6 Deep Freeze is no exception. I'd start with that page or the VX/VXE-6 Organization website.

I've added some links below to help you get started. Note that VX-6 Squadron was redesignated in 1969 to VXE-6; on the Shipmate list you'll see entries for both squadrons, so you'll want to concentrate on those guys who were in VX-6 to continue your search.

What does OS2 mean in navy?

Operations Specialist 2nd class ( he/she is an E-5).

On a Guided Missile Cruiser they work mostly in combat or on the bridge. Sometimes they will stand a watch on the topside of the ship looking for contacts (other ships). They work with surface and air radar systems (stand watch on the console, they do not work on or do the maintenance on it.

Not a bad job IMO.

Mostly clear.
If you hold up a glass of sea water, it's usually clear, just like tap water. The sea looks blue under a blue sky, grey under a grey sky etc because it is reflecting that colour. If you look through a long distance of sea water it often has a green tinge.

Did Edward G. Robinson serve in the U.S Navy?

Not much is known about his specific assignment or job, but Edward G. Robinson did in fact serve in the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of WWI when he was in his mid-20's. Since there's not much information, it's likely he was just in the Navy for a brief period during the war. Though he wanted to serve again in WWII, by that time he was too old (he was 50). He did however contribute to the war effort by translating radio broadcasts, as he was fluent in 7 different languages.

Does the navy have infantry?

Marines are typically linked to the Navy - often as a separate force within the bureau responsible for the maintenance of the Navy, but sometimes as an actual part of the Navy itself. The term 'Marines' isn't exclusive to that type of infantry - just as frequently around the world, they can be found with the designation of 'naval infantry' or similar.
