P0340 would seem to relate to a fault with the camshaft position sensor, or related wiring.
It is also worth noting that a badly worn (IE stretched) cam-chain could also cause this fault code to come up. This would normally be accompanied by excessive engine noise (Rattling from the chain).
How do you change a light bulb in Vauxhall Astra?
Changing headlamps in a Mark 4 Astra 30 minute job:
nb- the standard Mk4 headlamps are the same apart from some are black inside and some are chrome.
Also I'm not a mechanic- just a novice so you really can do this too!
OK there's 2 options here
- Fiddle around inside and try to prize the bulbs out. For this you'll need the hands of an elf and the dexterity of a ninja master.
- Best option is to take the whole headlamp unit out. It's not super difficult but it ain't as simple as boiling an egg.
First thing you need to do is pop out the bumper on the side the lamp is on.
Lift the bonnet and locate 2 screws just in front of the radiator. Undo these and put them in a safe place. This will now make it easier to get the lamp unit out as the bumper will drop slightly.
Next, under the wheelarch of the side the lamp is on you should find another couple of screws to undo and a few clips. Don't be scared of these just remember where they went. You can even take a picture of each step on your phone to remind you of what you did in reverse order.
OK- now the bumper should drop on one side too- giving you access to the side of the lampunit.
You're now ready to take the lamp out
The lamp unit is secured in 3 places- 2 plastic fixing straps coming off the top of the lamp which secure the unit to the chassis and 1 plastic supporting column coming off the bottom.
First, undo the screw which holds the supporting column in place. You can access this from the side of the lamp because you've dropped the bumper on that side. Again place the screw in a safe place.
Next undo to 2 fixings that secure the top of the lamp and hey presto - movement!
Now all you need to do is disconnect all of the little power plugs that feed each lamp. the bigger ones you squeeze at the top and pull- the little ones have a clip which you need to lift slightly and pull.
OK- the headlamp is free to remove.
Once removed change the bulb of your choice- note that the 2 bigger bulbs have rubber seals around them which are easily removed before twisting and pulling the bulb holder out. These go back into place very easily afterwards.
Right- the bulb is changed!!! Hoorah for you
One thing I will say is reconnect the electrics and test it quickly before you completely reinstall it! This could save you heaps of time and agro if the bulb is a dud or you haven't quite put it back in right.
Reverse the whole process and go and have a nice cuppa feeling smug and satisfied that you've done something yourself and saved a few bob!

Hi, I had the same problem on my 1998 Astra and was expecting the worse. The warning light used to come on and go off as it should when the ignition was turned on but after a few seconds of the engine runing, it would come on again.
It use to go off when I pressed the foot-brake pedel,stay off, but came on again.
I had just had a tow-bar and electric fitted to the car and it proved to be a fault on the wiring that the company had done (they had not clamped the feed wire to the towing electrical sockets for the brake lights tight enough) I put more pressure on each of the connectors using a pair of mole grips and it cured the problem. The main vauxhall dealer that I use for servicing, had not heard of this problem before and even their diagnostic check failed to diagnose the problem. I only found it when replacing a stop-tail light bulb whilst the problem was still at large and moved the wiring behind the back light (the stop-light worked as well.)

How do you change the headlight bulb on a Vauxhall zafira?
In the case of the passenger bulbs they are very easy to change however from personal experience the drivers side is much more difficult.
The driver side front bulbs are more difficult to change because the air filter is positioned above and behind the extraction point for the bulb holders. In the case of the dipped beam headlight bulb the easiest option I have found is to remove the five torx screws from the air filter box, remove two screws holding the headlight in place. remove the sidelight to the left of the bulb you are replacing as this obstructs its extraction.[ held in by a clip that you raise to release] then pull the headlight forward gently at the top to gain about half inch of space and then lift the air filter box top about four inches.
You can clearly see your target bulb and case which with a quarter turn will be released and with the additional space you have created should extract clearly.
Note the position of the bulb before removal to ensure the replacement is not put in upside down then not touching the glass part of the new bulb insert it into the bulb holder.
When repositioning the bulb holder it can be difficult unless you remember the position from which it first came. I noted that in my case the straight part of the bulb holder needed to be positioned pointing at the sidelight side of the wing before it would slot in properly and then a quarter turn towards the engine secured it.
Replace the side light bulb by inserting it into its holder remembering to position the clip the same way it was removed. [top or bottom] In my case the drivers was under the light and the passengers was above the light] [You may feel or hear a click as it locks in position]
Then replace and secure the air filter box top with the five torx screws.
