Hope I helped. :)

Answer You know that if it were't for computers, you wouldn't be able to ask this question on the Internet, and get your answer. Before the WWW came along there was what is referred to as the BBS, not very reliable or good. But back to your question. Myself personally, I use the Computer for Personal use. Writing letters to Friends, keeping my company's data base up to date and coming here to answer questions for people like you, something I enjoy very much.

Make sure that:

1. The webcam, if it is external to your computer, is plugged in.
2. Make sure you have installed any drivers that mya have come with your webcam or computer.
3. Make sure the application you are using supports webcams. The webcam light will not turn on until something is trying to use it.

one solution is that your computer might be slow

second solution skype might messed up your computer

third solution is you might have a virus.

So, in a few steps I will explain how to use Skype webcam. Before continue with the tutorial make sure that you have working installed webcam. It should have some kind of software and if it is not working well won't work in Skype also.

If you have your device setup, the webcam preferences in Skype can be found under 'Tools' -> 'Options'.

The very first tab is 'General' where the Skype video settings section is located. When you click on it a pane will be opened and you will be able to setup your Skype webcam.

Just click on 'Enable Skype Video' and if your webcam is configured correctly, at right, you will see video.

If you click on 'Webcam Settings' you will be able to manage the default Video Capture properties.

According to your Skype web camera the settings may vary, but in common you shall have:

Brightness - an attribute of visual perception in which a source appears to be radiating or reflecting light.

Contrast - the difference in visual properties that makes an object distinguishable from other objects and the background.

Hue - is simply another word for colour. It is the quality that distinguishes one colour family from another.

Saturation - a measure of a color's pureness and brilliance.

Gamma " changes the luminance of the Skype.

In case you still have issues with your web camera click here to find the officially supported Skype webcam drivers.

Another useful tutorial is how to install Skype where also you will learn how to add contacts.

In skype ... Tools > Options > Advanced. In the "When a new verison of skype is available ..." section uncheck the "Automatically download and install it" check box.

If like me your camera stopped working after an update then installing version 4.0.1 (get from web) and unchecking this option will mean your camera will keep working and you won't be forced to go out and buy a webcam that skype is getting a kickback from.

Yes, there is Skype 2.2 Beta for Linux, codenamed ‘Access Granted’, it brings Skype Access to Linux users. Skype Access lets you connect to over 500,000 WiFi hotspots worldwide using your Skype Credit.

"There are several VOIP companies that provide residential and business services to people. The best deal is probably with Magic Jack, they were the first company, and are still cheapest."

A PBX phone system service is available over the Public Switched Telephone network and/or over the internet. Your telephone company usually is the host for this service through a lease agreement.

I like Joyfone (spelling is correct) for about $10 per month over mycomcast highspeed internet. They provide a VOIP modem that goes between the incomming comcast cable Ethernet modem and my router. This configuration is necessary so they can upgrade the software from time to time. All calls are then free within the US. This includes 911 and "local long distance" which is really expensive from the phone company. It then just plugs into my house phone lines. (Disconnect from the phone company first.) Low or free calls to other countries.

You can have Skype on an ipod touch, there is an app for Skype. IF you have an ipod touch 3rd generation you can use you apple headphones that came with your ipod to talk to people and if you have an ipod touch 4th generation then you can also see people thanks to facetime.

Amazon is a good place to look for a VoIP phone adapter for a lower price, they also offer used devices. This will cut down on the cost, but you also have to be sure you are getting something of good quality.

Skype does not require you to have a webcam, or even a microphone. If you wish to make video calls, you do need a webcam, and to make calls you need a microphone, but you can just use the chat option if you want.

Skype and iChat don't talk to each other. In order to chat, if one party is using iChat, the other party can use AIM. Or if one party is using Skype, then the other party can install Skype as well.
