Your Volvo 940 radio says off when you turn it on?

Check that the antenna is plugged in on both ends. For the back end, open the trunk and detach the fuzzy trunk liner from the left wall of the trunk (where the antenna goes into the car). You'll find the antenna motor assembly there; you can't miss it. There are two connections on it, one for power (I assume) and the other for the signal. Check that the proper plugs are plugged in and secure. For the front end, you want to make sure that the antenna is plugged into the stereo. If you still have the factory stereo installed, press the two vertical slits on the both sides of the stereo, so that spring-loaded finger holds pop out, then use those holds to pull the stereo out. Ensure that the antenna is plugged into the back. It's a lone, black cable with a metal plug on the end. If all of that checks out, you may need to consider replacing the antenna motor assembly (I got one from a junk yard for cheap) or the car stereo.

Why the gas hand is not working in your 1996 960 Volvo?

I assume you mean the fuel gauge that tells you how much fuel there is left. The reason is that the fuel sensor is stuck. This fuel sensor is a mechanical fuel sensor that rises with the fuel level in the gas tank. A really ridiculous design for a fuel level sensor. It gets stuck and you will need to replace it. Its the same amount of time to replace it as to replace the fuel pump. Just leave it until the fuel pump goes bad, then you can do both.

Where is the transmission fluid on a 1997 Volvo 960?

On a UK Volvo 960 (they are 3 litre straight-six models) to find the transmission dipstick, first stand at the front of the car and locate the OIL dipstick and then continue looking towards the engine bulkhead the rear of the engine. The transmission dipstick is an arm length down. It has a square plastic yellow top that is recessed to accept a long 3/8 extension drive for removal. You can reach down, flick the spring loaded clip off with a thumb and withdraw the dipstick by hand. One side of the dipstck is for checking the fluid level when cold; the other side is for with a hot transmission. There's a couple of photos on glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk under 'Volvo 960' on the drop down menu.

Reset the check engine light on a 1993 Volvo 960?

find the fuse box behind a panel on the drivers upper side of the dashboard. Remove the cover and remove the #22 fuse (should read engine control or ECM control) for ~10- 20 seconds) Re-install fuse and MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) should be reset. If this procedure does not work remove the battery's positive and negative cables and touch them together for ~ 10 seconds. This should reset the keep alive memory. Be careful not to remove the #24 fuse for the Transmission control module!
